I must have bought at a wrong time? I have clean credit and had to finance @ 3.90% for 72 months. I mean it almost came down to an MMA choke out and I even picked out the red Ram. "No mr. salesman I don't want the 2019 silver one". Exhausting !!!
We bought it right after the covid shut down happened. The salesman we were working with had finally found a truck spec’d exactly how we wanted but he wasn’t even sure how to sell it to us at the time because of the shut down. Since we were considered essential workers at the time he was able to find a loophole for us. Ram was running a 0%/84 mo. financing deal till the end of April that year and we bought the truck the day before it ended. We also got about 8k in incentives…on a Limited.

Today was a day of days. The last of 72 "easy monthly payments" as it has been said was drawn from my bank today.

Keep making the same payment in to a high-yield savings account so that you will have the cash when it comes time to buy a new vehicle. Did that years ago and have paid cash for my last three purchases.

Congratulations on paying it off. Personally, I have never had a vehicle loan. My first car cost $100 in 1970. I learned a ton about auto repair keeping it on the road. Started buying and selling cars, fixing them up a bit and selling them for a profit. In the late 70s we imported a bunch of high end sports cars like Jags, Lancia, Maserati, Ferrari, Porsche etc. from Europe when the gas shortages hit and there was no market for used cars that went through a lot of gas. Brought them to Canada and made a ton reselling them here.

Always bought used vehicles, drove them a while and resold them for a profit. Never bought my first new vehicle until 1994 when the 2500 Ram came out with the V10 standard cab Then, 2 years later, sold it, much to my surprise, for what I paid for it new, and bought a 1996 Ram Club cab with the V10. Still have that one, but everything else we bought was still used vehicles.

Never bought another new one till 2020 when I got a new Grand Cherokee for my wife. With all the incentives, they were for sale new, for 20K less than ones 2 years old with 60,000 miles on them. Same with the 2021 2500 I factory ordered in March 2020, it was cheaper than the used ones or new ones on the lot.

The prices of vehicles since 2021 have really shot up. To replace my 2500 Laramie today would cost me $40,000 more than I paid for the 2021. Used car prices have gone nuts too.

Today was a day of days. The last of 72 "easy monthly payments" as it has been said was drawn from my bank today. Mileage on the clock for six years is 48,980. Anyone remember back in the day when 48 months seemed forever? Yea, I'm that old but only by a number not at heart. I keep good maintenance up on the Red Pearl. Oil (PUP) every 5K w/mo-899 filter, plugs changed at 40K, water pump went out at 38K (that was a disappointment) and any little things down to the cabin a/c filter. I know at 60K some things trans. service, belt, bigger things will be done. Garage kept but next month she gets a buff and polish. Life is good with a Hemi (GM refugee). We all know that the extra money will go to somethings other. A little in savings and the price of now 89/93 pump octane mix I have run through the last 6yrs etc. Lets see how long she'll last. :owned:
Congrats! I recall buying my first new, 'custom ordered' truck (a 1989 Ford F-150) for $12,000 and thinking it was a LOT of money. Think I had a 4 year loan on that and paid it off a bit early. (Threw an extra $25 per month on the payments.) Got a 2000 Dodge Quad Cab with the 360 magnum engine (which would pass anything except a gas station) for $25k, and thought, "Wow...price doubled in about 11 years..." Drove that for 17 odd years; also paid that off a bit early by upping my monthly payment by $40 or so. I bought a slightly used (8300 miles) 2016 Ram EcoDiesel from the owner of our local CDJR dealership in 2018 and had nothing but problems with it, so after a year dumped it for essentially the same truck but with a 5.7 Hemi and a full trailer-tow package. THAT was $41k! I got an 8-year loan on that but paid it off in less than 4 years, and still have it. Just turned over 94,000 miles and might be doing some horse-trading with a gal at our church for her late husband's 2019 Ram 3/4 ton with the 6.4 Hemi and 40,000 miles on it. (We bought a small 5th wheel RV and while CGVW is slightly below the max, I'm thinking a 3/4 ton might be a better.) I don't even dare to 'build and price' a new 3/4 ton; I can be almost certain a good chunk of our 'kid's inheritance' would '****!' vanish in a moment!

Congratulations!

It's been a long time since I've had to make a car payment so I'm sure it feels great to not have the note over your head any more. Most of the time when I buy a new vehicle, they'll have some kind of extra cash back or similar by taking their financing. I take it, then write a check and pay in full when I get the payoff location or first coupon so I don't bother paying any interest (maybe a few bucks depending on the days) and get all the cash back. I know it probably ****** off the finance managers but that's their problem.

When I bought the Ram I got something like an extra 2 or 3 grand rebate by taking the FCA financing. The Finance Manager said "You've got to keep the financing for 6 months if you take it", which of course didn't exist anywhere in the paperwork. I told him that I was going to stroke a check to pay it off as soon as I got the payoff address in the next day or two. He asked me to do him a favor and keep the financing at least 90 days, to which I said "Sure, if you're willing to knock the cash back amount off the price". He wasn't too happy

Mine is the Lonestar trim with the chrome. I have the truck the way I like it ( westin step bars, husky F/B mats, exhaust mods). I'm hoping to get long good service with good maintenance. I'm just glad to be out from under the 72 months of payments. Very happy with the truck.

Spend the kids inheritance. You earned it, not them. ;)
Oh, for sure. My daughter (in her early 40's) said, "Daddy, I DON'T need your money!" (She makes twice in one year than my wife and I made together in a year!) She's a good kid.

Damn, I'm glad I can overcome my wants vs my needs, unlike you guys!
I need an AC Cobra, but I want to stay married. lol
Seriously, I paid $10k cash for my truck and $6k cash for my Jeep (don't ask what I've invested since). Older vehicles just tickle my fancy better and I'm okay with that, but I'd sure love an old Road Runner or Charger some day, old is something I can sell the wife on because I can work on it myself.
