Hello everyone.

3500 laramie

Back end of last winter my drivers heated seat started acting up - then by the end was not working at all - lights would be lit on the button but no action on my bottom. obviously forgot about it until now, truck was in the stealership for some otherwork and i asked them to take a look. they said it needs replacing and the part alone would be $1200! anyone else had that high of a number thrown at them?

mopar website directed me to part - 4610125AC (the truck has the cooled seats too), is this the right part? its $305 on their website. seems expensive enough but obviously a much better option.

confident i would be able to do the install my self. can anyone confirm that part to save me putting the seat and getting inside to take a look? trucks in use daily so would mean pulling it to get eyes on, putting it all back together then pulling it back out once the part arrives.

thanks

Nothing new. The prices of seat components have been pricey in Asian and Domestic vehicles for years. I'd pay them for a seat heater repair. Thataway if the truck goes up in flames due to the seat heater, well, you know! ;)

Should be a 15 and 18 mm socket and 2 plugs to pull the seat, not really a big deal,i pull the pass seat pretty well every weekend at the track in my little regular cab.

thanks Sherman. valid point. even if my chances of seeing a dime out of them if the truck burns to the ground is probably slim to non

Thanks Wild one, from poking my head in there for a minute it did look easy to pull the seat but i was more worried about the upholstery - no experience with upholstery and im worried about it not fitting back on there nicely

I’ve never worked on one…but certainly should make sense to first check the electrical circuit before buying a heater pad. Maybe you’ll find where that mouse or your bowie-knife you keep under the seat caught the harness…. ?

That price is way too high. There are aftermarket installers who put
heat pads in many different vehicles everyday. It is simple for them.
I am estimating less than $400. Call a shop that does stereos or similar.

We bought a new 2018 Yukon that had cloth seats without heat. The dealer took it to Fargo, and a shop put them in, part of the deal.
You can buy the kits under $100 for a pair of seats. You sound like
you could do it yourself, and have the power and switch already there.
Good luck.

Check with Benny at @AllMoparParts.com They are a forum vendor and Benny will make sure you get the correct part for your truck.

I would ask the dealer what part/parts (the numbers) they quoted you. While the dealer is usually higher they are not going to be that much higher (unless that included install). Something isn't adding up here.

Heated seats don't usually fail under wty. so it is mostly labor.
A tech. who has never done it, $150. per hour........... ;)
You can tell they have never done it, as nobody would take them up on that deal...........

A complete, replacement seat should be less than 400 from your local yard, or LKQ.

Aww! C'mon! Just look at all those high energy, Red Bull infused lawyers on TV bloviating how they got poor Joe 40 gazillion dollars, and can for you, too! "Sue the baysterds!". ;)

+1 what Kickboxer said. Take it to an auto upholstery shop. They specialize in removal/install and repair of vehicle seats. It’s not beyond a DIY repair but not having the appropriate tools, facility to work and the experience could take the truck out of use for more than a day, ask me how I know lol

If your bottom seat cushion is deteriorating as many do, it would also be a good time to replace that while you have it apart. I believe Dorman makes a very reasonable aftermarket cushion replacement.

IF…you attempt to do this sort of work on your own…BEWARE of AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT which may involve Side Air Bags within your seat. I don’t know if Your Truck has them…but SOME DO…. you don’t want to deploy air bags or your truck can be a total write-off.

I installed heating pads in my 2018 Bighorn front seats for $100 and a few hours of my time. Since you already have a Laramie I would suggest sticking with the OEM unit. Pulling the seat cover on these trucks is pretty easy. If you want it to be completely factory, just get some hog rings and a pair of hog ring pliers to reinstall the cover. Or... you can replace the hog rings with a strong zip tie and accomplish the exact same thing.

Chances are if you go aftermarket it will cost more with shop labor than you doing the swap using OEM parts yourself.

Unhook the battery, unplug the connectors, and remove the seat. Pull the cover and replace the bad heating component. Install in reverse.
