I've never liked it and would prefer a column shifter, but it is what it is.

i dont see why people hate it?

for me both of my cars have it. the hardest thing for me is since both my cars have the keyless and go push start trying to get into my wifes chevy and having to use a key.

I don't personally have one (I've got a column shifter) but from a theoretical standpoint, I think it makes more sense than a center console shifter. I think that unless you are driving a standard where a console shifter is always being used, having a large and obnoxious shifter is a waste of space. The rotary dial is out of the way, it's clean, and it's small. You use it a maximum of three times during a drive. Once to put it in drive, once to put put it in reverse (pulling out a a parking space for example), and then once as you reach your destination to out it in Park. Space is limited inside a vehicle. And taking up Half of a center console for an object you'll use three times per drive is silly in my opinion.

However, compared to a column shifter, I think the differences are practically moot, aside from the fact that the rotary is away from the steering wheel, thus making the wheel more clean and crisp instead of noisy.

Of course I never used one so I can't say if it's any good from an experienced standpoint.

I love it! Looks so sleek! The first few times when I bought the truck I reached for the column shifter, but other than that no mistakes have been made.

Took a while to get used to it. Several times after reversing I would go to Park instead of Drive, but that hasn't happened for quite a while now.

The only functional disadvantage to it that I've come up with is that you must have a thumb and finger (on the same hand!) available to operate it, so if you're holding, say, a donut, you have to put it down to change direction.

I guess if there were a choice I'd probably take the traditional column, but it doesn't bother me.

Thats funny. Could possibly run the side of your hand across it.

The dial is neat. I like a good ol column shifter though I have no problems using the dial. Im glad that I dont have a floor shifter, what a waste of space as well just looks like a car to me.

My pops looked in my truck and laughed when he saw the dial shifter. I told him atleast it doesnt have a car shifter in it(like his ram). ha

Different but easy to get used to. I have turned other knobs at times but not a big deal. Wouldn't mind a column shifter but not a console shifter. They look the best but as stated waste a whole seat. I have the bench and have 6 with me at times.

it makes no difference to me. i wouldn't care either way. the only thing that makes it weird is getting in my wife's suburban and turning the AC fan up trying to put it in reverse....

I will never be able to get used to it. I have a Mustang with a stick, A civic work car auto in c console and wife's Rav4.
I'm afraid I'm going to leave the truck without putting it in park.

I really like the rotary shifter. I actually started my truck search at Ram because console shifters took up so much space and my buddie's 2500 had so much room in the center console. I don't miss other more traditional style of shifters at all, and have found the rotary pretty intuitive.

As long as you turn the truck off it is smart enough to put itself into park if you forget..

I like it- it's different. The only problem I have is my natural mistrust in too much electronic. Other than that- how often do I use it? Once in d it stays there till I arrived at the destination. I think it's a cool feature

column would still be electronic, damn near everything on the 8 speed is electronic

Does it actually do this?

sure does and it makes a horrible clicking sound when it does it so i try to avoid it. you can't even turn it off in neutral without it going into park so if you have to get a tow or whatever you have to use the release cable in the dash or put the transfer case into neutral(preferably both)

the good part on 4x4 is the neutral button in the 4x4 switch block- this disengages the drive completely and you can even flat tow it. at least this is what the manual says... :)

I thought the dial shifter was weird and wasnt a huge fan when I first got the truck. But after about a week I got used to it, and now I really like it. I like how quick I can flip from reverse to drive when I back onto the street. I wasn't sure I'd like it, but now that I'm used to it I dig it.

Overall, it's okay. I'd be happier with a column shifter, but it does it's job without a problem, so I'm okay with it.
