Insurance prices all boil down to zip codes and the accident stats on the vehicle.

Ten years ago, I paid less to insure my 7 year old Tundra Limited than the gf paid for her 13 year old POS basic model Saturn.

I'm sure it was all about how much it would have cost them if we were hit by someone else. Obviously, with the Tundra, there would be a much better likelihood of walking away.

In January '22, the insurance on my RAM was about $1050 Canadastan $, then in '23 it jumped up to about $1300.

I shopped around and couldn't save much anywhere else that I checked.

The insurance companies are paying out too much for death benefits and property damage.

I never signed up for anything. No uConnect, no satellite radio, no OnStar, nothing.

And yet...

I had to manually change the clock in my wife's 2011 Eclipse for Daylight Savings Time, but not my truck. My 2014 Ram already displayed the updated time change.
Modern radios use the Radio Data System. RDS is a signal broadcast by radio stations including song/program information, traffic, advertisements, as well a time and date. There is no connection to your truck.

Whatever you think "Privacy" is, you are wrong. You can not stop anyone from harvesting your data. You can not "Opt Out". No matter how angry you get about it, your data is available to anyone who wants it.

I opted out...

Having said that, I'll bet all of you have Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri, or at least use Amazon or Google search, Facebook, etc.

Know this... You're being tracked nearly 100% of the time.

And the insurance is going up mostly due to the "Defund the Police" BS. They're not prosecuting anyone for crimes anymore cause "the insurance will pay it".

My homeowners went up 20% this year - never had a claim in 32 years. Don't live in a high crime, flood, or other natural disaster area.
But I'm paying for those that do.
You clearly don't understand Police, Insurance, or life in general.
Police don't prosecute anyone, they never have. Police DO get billions in funding to sleep in their cars, violently attack innocent law abiding people, and show up after crimes have been committed to block traffic and otherwise not do ****.
Insurance pays the same amount, whether or not someone goes to jail.
All insurance customers pay a little for all other insurance customers, and a LOT for insurance company profits. 90% of your premium increase is going to profits.

I wonder how this opt out BS works for me.

I transplanted a donor 8.4n radio into my OEM 5.0 truck. I can't activate my radio or anything through Sirius or Uconnect. Bet they are still just sucking up my data though. My Sirius travel stuff still works by the way. Not all the time but over holidays they turn it back on every year.

That's the world we live in now, data is a commodity that is bought, sold and traded and there is nothing we can do to completely kill it.

You can't get away from it.

Wild times! Especially with AI right now, even more data is being pulled from each and every one of us as technology moves forward.

I don't believe that it's quite that bleak. There are smart steps that we can all exercise to significantly reduce our data from exploitation.

I have my phone and pc locked down. I only permit the weather app on my phone to have location information, nothing else.

My ISP knows my location of the phone with the IMEI but 476 apps are locked and can't call home. Nothing I own is able to update anything without my permission.

And one very important aspect of my privacy maintenance is, all of my internet browsers are configured to not share anything, and block all tracking attempts.

And, I never use Google anything on my phone or pc besides a modified Android OS.

My privacy is abused by FCA and will likely continue until my warranty expires, at which point I will learn how to disconnect the upstream data and post my solution.

Speaking of AI, y'all had best get with the program of protecting your own privacy, sooner than later.

AI is going to be scooping up endless data points, compiling and warehousing that data for sale to the highest bidder.

The most recent developments in the advancement of AI is a treasure chest for data abusers.

I shudder to think what my insurance premiums would be if they knew my actual driving habits.
My PW probably wouldn't bother them too bad, but my motorcycle premiums would be sky high...

That's real crock of $hit right there.
Going to jail and being prosecuted is a deterrent! Thanks to small minds thinking like (above), the deterrent is almost gone. No one fears jailtime anymore because the news media and politicians have convinced people it's racist.

And in 2023, most insurance companies actually lost money. And here's a newsflash... all companies are in business to make a profit. We all benefit from that (investments, 401K, etc.)

There are 2 reasons insurance is increasing across the board.
1. The dumping of money into our economy the past 3-4 years has devalued our currency (i.e. inflation)
2. The insurance companies are having to foot the bill for the dramatic increase in criminal behavior (theft and property destruction).

My homeowners insurance increased over 20% in ONE YEAR. I've had no claims filed in 32 years.

And don't forget about the rise in property damage claims due the our crazy weather incidents or the big secret of death benefits payouts since sometime in 2021.

While his post is just ridiculous doomporn for the most part, he's right police don't prosecute. *Mostly*. There are a few jurisdictions that allow police officers to act as the prosecutor for certain traffic offenses and low level misdemeanors. Entirely a New England regional thing as best I'm aware. Everywhere else, police can only arrest. Prosecutor's office or local equivalent then decides to prosecute or not, and is the sole entity who can do so.

Thanks for posting.

This is the FCA opt-out form.

View attachment 540123

I would be a fan if only it would recognize Ontario as my State. This link is only good for US residents.

.
Thank you for this. I just completed the form - although I use Brave as my browser (specifically for its privacy and security features) and, for some reason, the webpage would not come up on the Brave browser. I had to copy and paste it to Edge before I could access the webpage for the opt-out process. Go figure!

Now that the companies are being forced to reveal some of their data-collecting efforts (and give CA people the theoretical option to opt-out) they are not as forgiving about circumventing their other "invisible" tactics to collect your data to sell.

Plenty of sites either make it nearly impossible to opt-out or will not allow access if you do not have other passive means of data gathering. VPN on? No access. Ad-blocker on? No access. Web browser privacy/security plug-in (e.g. Brave)? No access.

As I've mentioned before, I will do my due diligence to thwart their efforts. If I can find another path to get what I want then I will do it. Every now and then I am left with no other practical option so will succumb to their evil ways.

In the end there are others out there that are far less careful or caring so the small-ish percentage of me floating out there compared to others will hopefully reduce the probability of me being a digital victim.
