I promise I did search for this first, but since the results came up dry...

Eyeballing a new set of Falken Wildpeaks for the truck (truck specs to your left), stock wheels. Why? Because my stock tires are nearing 25k miles, and though they do have a bit of tread left on them, winter (and a lot of ice) is here in the Oregon Coastal Range.

Now the question is this:

I'd like to get the thicker tread (LT265 /70 R17 121S E1 RBL), but it lists the pressure as up to 80psi.

...how does one reprogram the TPMS for that? Does the tire company swap out the sensors in the wheels, do I have to pester the dealership to fix that up for me, or is there some funky sorcery where the PCM sees a higher PSI and assumes it all for me, or...?

That is a good question. However, just because the sidewall lists 80 psi, that doesn't mean you run near that. That would be the max. My old '12 Outdoorsman came with LT tires in that size. I can't remember for sure what the door sticker said for recommended pressure, but it may have been 44psi?

Any respectable tire shop should know the answer to your question.

Ah, so I'm not required to jack up the pressure then? I'd thought that the tires would sag at std. pressure (42psi).

Can you tell that I'm a touch clueless on tires?

Doesn't matter, the sensors only read low pressure and not high pressure. My G2's list 80 psi as max pressure, but I only run them at 45 psi. The low pressure setting is enough to let me know before they get too low on air.

Max PSI is Max at Max load. There are sites on line that list suggested pressure for tire if U go away from the PSI recommended by manufacturer printed on sticker on truck and in manual. Of course, also depends whether or not U are going away from the tire recommended for your ride...

TPMS can be reprogrammed by dealer or like running an alphaOBD...

There are threads on here and other forum on alphaOBD..
