I'm considering getting a Morimoto/Digital 35w combo for my 2007 1500. One of the biggest concerns I have is a failure of the lights due to the electrical issues that year has with aftermarket lights. (Read a couple threads about people getting stranded.) I would want a back up, so could I use an H1 halogen bulb plugged into the stock harness in case of ballast or other issues? What kind of adapter would be required, and would it be inexpensive to buy or fabricate? If this is possible or has already been done it would be great to know and would make me a lot more likely to go for it!

On my 05 Ram I used to carry a cheap stock set of headlight bulbs in the glove box while I was working my issues with my Hids. If they are causing trouble just switch back to the stock bulbs quickly until you can work out the hid's.

I think the people that are having problems with HID's are running cheaper brands or do not have the correct setup. If you haven't already talk with JJ (0212353) he'll get you exactly what you need

talk to JJ and use his harness, ive been running a retro for years, and no failures, most people who have failures that leave em stranded either dont follow installation instructions or they are using cheap components, like others said you can always throw some hellas behind the grill...

on the morimotos in the case of a failure, you cant just throw a halogen bulb in them and be good, too many factors are against you there, your pretty much stranded in a complete failure, BUT if that were the case it would be the relay, which your current headlights now are at the mercy of having a relay failure as well, it basically boils down to this, the harnesses that JJ sells, have been tested by many people and have been perfected for our trucks and are probably just as reliable as your factory headlights as long as you follow the installation instructions...

Cool, thanks for the info; the explanation helps clarify how it could fail so I understand better now. This will definitely have to go on my want list.

I had a hell of a time until I got projectors and the hid from JJ.

Then I got the TRC H13 Morimoto MotoControl harness and it was all good.

HID with projectors aimed properly will beat any OEM lights out there in light output. Its the only way to go.

My biggest question is....When running hi or low for an extended period and have to go to the other, what do you all do to get light....I bought a cpl kits for my big rig and i swear my lights take from 20-30 seconds to get a decent amount of light..That amount of time you can run into or over something and not see it..
These are kits from a local supplier so it might be the kits themselves...Im almost sure my ddm's on my bike light up faster than my rigs do..
I did see a ram goin the other night with full set of hids in both headlights and foggers..Man it looked sweet..
Anyone got any links for some good stuff..

I run 6,000K HID's in the low beams and fogs. My set up on the headlights is a single bulb with projectors and shrouds. Once they have initially warmed up, switching to high beams with a good projector kit is instantaneous on a single bulb system as they are already on.

If you have a separate bulb for a high beam and want to go HID with that, you'll have to expect a bit if a delay while it warms up. That's why a lot of folks with a separate high beam bulb go with a bright white halogen vs. a HID there.

For a good set of HID's and some projectors, I'd suggest ya talk with 0212353 here. He can hook ya up with whatever ya need.

hit the nail on the head there.

On the 4th gens though, if you have quads - the lows should stay on, so doing a dual kit in there would get you a LOT of light!

Let me know if you need anything! From drop in kits to a full on custom set of lights!
