Just had a service rep at a dealer tell me FCA says not to use any type of fuel additive in the Ecodiesel. I am coming from a 2006 mega cab 2500 with a 5.9 so the 3.0 is a new animal to me. ?? So does the Ecodiesel have a fuel heater to keep it from gelling ?? Also called techauthority for FCA and was told that the additives will screw up the ecodiesel ??

Unless there's a TSB to negate your owner's manual, this is from the 1500 section in the 2015 Diesel Supplement Manual for 1500/2500/3500.

"NOTE: If climatized or diesel Number 1 ULSD fuel is not available, and you are operating below (20°F/-6°C), in sustained arctic conditions, Mopar Premium Diesel Fuel Treatment (or equivalent) is recommended to avoid gelling."

I'm pretty sure Illinois sees colder than 20° F, but I have no idea how hard Number 1 ultra low sulfur diesel is to find. If you can find it, you may need to do some experimentation to see if it will hold up for your temps, then buy some antigel additive if it doesn't.

Just another example of dealerships and FCA having no idea what the other is saying. The only way you can be covered is by following the FCA printed documentation. If any of us go by the "but my dealer said" maintenance theory, we're at risk for warranty denials.

Winter blend diesel is already in circulation at the pumps and it doesn't get cold enough where you are to worry about it.

Simply never use diesel 2, if for some reason that is the only option, just dump a bottle cetane winter booster. You really want to stay away from other grades of diesel with an eco diesel, there are so many filters and def and computer programs and smog garbage that you want D1 fuel. Burla ten years driving a rig...

No, it doesn't. Use an anti-gel additive if needed.

Also called techauthority for FCA and was told that the additives will screw up the ecodiesel ??
That's an absurd statement. There are many using various additives for a variety of reasons, from improving the fuel to preventative maintenance. I am an additive dealer and have never seen or read a case where a fuel additive has caused a problem.

#1 diesel has even less lubricity (sulfur) than the already #2 ULSD. The 2 reasons i have used additives primarily in the winter is.

1- Extra insurance against gelling
2 - #1 diesel added to #2 for the winter blend makes the already short on lubrication #2 ULSD even less lubricating.

I will continue to use Alliant Power (aka Stanadyne) only during winter months unless this truck starts acting up. I've got 2 tanks through it so far with the additive and no lights yet but time will tell ?? The local diesel shop has seen its share of failed CP4 pumps and swears its caused by lack of lubrication ??
