Engine trouble

I have a 1997 5speed manual with a 318 engine. I had it sitting for about a week, ran fine before it was sitting, it started right up Friday morning, stumbled once when I turned a corner close to my destination about 15 miles from my home, had 1/4 tank of gas, I arrived at my destination (work), parked, and 12 hours later it wouldn't start. Will crank over but will not start with gas or starting fluid in throttle body. It did backfire once through the throttle body. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong with it?

Did you take a plug out and see if it was getting fire?

No I haven't yet. I am going to try that tomorrow when I go to it.
