If Trump would make us the 51st to 62nd states, there might be more support,as i think alot of the sticking points is lumping all of Canada into 1 state, that's a bit of a sticky point

I agree from what I’ve read. I’m waiting for the inevitable announcement of seeking to unite Canada, United States, and Mexico under a banner of America Union, like European Union. I mean it’s been so successful.

Please note the sarcasm.

I thought this was going to be about all the diesel exhaust "modifications" guys are doing every day in shops across the country.
dpfs are especially **** in cold weather areas like around here. with all the construction guys that idle their nice new diesel pickups all day long for HVAC and whatever, there is no shortage of demand for "deep cleaning" dpf and scr systems.
the epa can get ****** as far as im concerned! they killed all the good things about a modern diesel and are now doing the same to gas
it can easily cost a few thousand dollars to restore a diesel truck with a blocked dpf. the labour to manually unblock the filters, the cost of the tuning and unlocking the pcm these days et cetra

flo pro (now mels manufacturing) is still producing race pipe kits for pickups but from what ive heard most prefer the stock look for emissions equipment :party36:
Flo-pro is just outside of Red Deer AB,still alot of rednecking going on out here :waytogo: :Big Laugh: I would hazard a guess there's more deleted diesal pick-ups per capita in AB then anywhere else in Canada

You would not believe how BAD the AIR Quality is about 25 miles north of the Mexico/San Diego Border.
Not only that, but the River of Water down in that area is so bad, that the citizens in that area, are trying to have the Area declared a National Emergency
air quality
I grew up in Imperial Beach. People always think wow, how cool to live half a mile from the ocean. But the beach was frequently closed because of sewage from Tijuana. I guess it hasn't gotten any better! Miserable place to live. I got out of the state when I turned 20 and never looked back.

haha i knew they were in AB but i didn't know they were so close to you!
i would think you are right, oil field and mining boys are top spot on the "needing a delete" list :drunk:

Im just glad we can get these things made in Canada at a reasonable price. it would suck to be installing china pipe everywhere. every flo pro kit ive seen has used pipe marked made in usa or made in Canada.

You guys up there just aren't raking the woods enough.:p

Folks can complain about the EPA all they want, but I'm old enough to remember all the smog we had down here in the 60's and 70's and the rivers catching fire from the pollution. We also conveniently forget all the acid rain contamination. It was bad enough to etch car finishes, not to mention make lakes sterile. I'll gladly accept the regulations because industry has never done the right thing on their own.

You have a valid point. I absolutely do recall those smoggy days and the acid rain. There is certainly a place for SOME well-founded regulations. But typically, regulations start out as somewhat reasonable and then (due mostly to over-zealous govt officials) morph into business-crushing and life-altering laws.

The point is, it's no longer the 60's and 70's. It's fixed. So there's no more need for EPA.

I think they need to stick around to enforce violations of existing policy, protect the great lakes from unauthorized dumping etc. But they should be told to roll car standards back to like 2020 and keep them there.

This constant push to ev is terrible. Build them for what it costs, and sell them with no subsidies. The market can decide what they want.

Oh, yes - agreed. I'm talking about looking for infinitesimal new things to regulate because they don't have anything else to do. I saw this myself when they started regulating exhaust gas emissions from propane generator engines that rarely ran in emergency standby mode.

They made onerous regulations to low-emitting engines and added costs for nearly no benefit whatsoever. I was product line manager at the time. We were dumbfounded, as was Cummins legal and regulatory departments. Back in 2006, or so.

does anyone remember the first emissions device mandated to be put on car engines ?

I think it was a rubber hose that went from a filter on the valve cover to the carburetor.
It really messed with the engine vacuum, the engine compartment was oily & the engine could hardly breathe.

It was soon after that time, that the Engines
Road Draft Tubes were blocked off & the PCV was put on Gasoline Engines

........................................................

The Road Draft Tube was a simple crankcase ventilation system used in older gas engines. It worked by creating a partial vacuum to draw crankcase gases out through a tube, venting them to the atmosphere. Airflow across the open end of the tube created suction, pulling the gases out when the vehicle was in motion.
All concrete roads had a black track in between the Wheel Tracks, it was from the engines Oil.

It turned out that the guy that designed it, was the Brother-in-Law of the California Governor that was in Office at that time.
It was found to be WORTHLESS after several years of Mandated Law, the ****** got very rich, so did that Governor.

That was the beginning of the EPA

a video that helps to explain what a Road Draft Tube did, before the PCV was developed

Are you referring to the early PCV systems that did away with the road draft tube, and used a hose to the air cleaner for the crankcase make up air.

Wasn't it the charcoal evap canister? I remember that on our 71 Pontiac Lemans 400.

It's not hard to imagine they can make diesels reliable again, given some time and effort. Constantly moving the goal post is a problem.

We're not ever going to go backwards in time. What's that saying... don't let perfect be the enemy of good? Something like that. So if dropping all emissions is never going to happen (and it won't), the next best thing is to stop it from advancing. Pick your battles, something you can win.

Besides, real men driver gassers. Guess if you want diesel you'll just have to get used to stuffing cat ur!ne in your tank

Way down here in Alabama we're getting the haze and smoke smell too. I started getting sick on Thursday and couldn't figure out why until the weather man explained why there was a haze and a smoky smell in the air. My sinuses are not happy right now.

I can't think of a way to phrase this more directly without violating forum rules...but if you're entering a 'measuring contest' and need to bring your truck along instead of just the thing to be measured well...I have bad news. :D
