Hey there, I've got a 2013 1500 Laramie with the 5.7. check engine light and gas cap came on so I took it to my mechanic and he said that the purge valves go bad and gunk can get in the lines, cool had him do the work, codes show up again in like 10 miles. So looking at his work he did change the leak detection pump, I crawled under the truck and saw the new part above the gas tank which I didn't take a picture. I have pictures the fuel vapor canister he changed, but I cannot find a hose that would connext to the bottom, so I'm posting to see if there is anything that goes there?
Then I see right behind the battery a hose that isn't connected to anything, can't find anything to see where it goes. Just wanted to clear up those two questions before I dig in deeper

You need to find a new mechanic if that is how he left it prty sure that hose connects to the nipple in first picture will check mine for exact routing ect.

I just replaced one of the lines, not the bottom but the side one. I had broken it doing my cam swap. Look below in the picture I posted. You need the top engine. I believe the 2 engines below are the 4.7l and the v6. Not 100% sure, or its from a 3rd gen break down. My truck is a 2009 so when I search some parts for a 2009, some of the 3rd gen items pull up. On the top engine picture, I just replaced number 3 which runs from the side of the linear purge valve to right behind the throttle body on the intake, but yours is a different situation. Take a look at the second picture I posted below from my engine bay when I did the cam swap. You can see the other end of the hose where it plugs into. Right next to the 7th cylinder (last one on the first bank). I think your hose runs to the vapor canister. I'm not even sure where that is on my truck, I hate emissions problems, never been great at fixing them. Hopefully this helps you.

I was getting code P0442, Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak). From what I've read people were suggesting to replace the gas cap, the vapor canister purge solenoid, the vapor leak detection pump and hope for the best. After initial inspection I didn't find anything and I was about to order an Evap smoke machine for further diagnostics. I decided to go over everything one last time before spending unnecessary money. After removing the rear wheel well liner I was able to inspect the fuel and vapor lines on top of the tank. Sure enough, a critter had chewed through one of the vapor tubes. The good news is that the part is still available through Mopar. The bad news is the best price I could find is over $100 for an 18 inch plastic tube. I ended up reusing the quick connect ends and I replaced the plastic tubing with rubber fuel line. Its been over 2 weeks and no more check engine light. Now I can finally get a good inspection sticker.

Just out of curiosity, did you ever have any issues refueling? Did any gas pumps kick out/spit out fuel while filling up?

Never had any problems taking the fuel. However, if I try to top it off after the pump stops, sometimes it will trigger a check engine light.

I was seeing swarm after swarm of evap small leak and "check gas cap" codes for the longest time. I replaced the cap three times because I wasn't convinced the replacements were sitting in the neck correctly. It got to a point though where seemingly overnight I couldn't add fuel without it kicking out or even spitting fuel out.

Ended up replacing the leak detection pump and it made it better for a few days, but then the codes came back. Eventually found that fuel vapor canister filter tucked up under/near the filler neck, and it was beyond plugged with dust. Once I replaced that it's been good on emissions errors ever since.
