Factory ordering a 2023 Ram 3500

I never planned on towing, but I got bitten by the travel trailer bug. I have a 2020 Ram 1500 Limited Blackout towing my new travel trailer. The payload is almost maxed out so I am thinking about ordering a new Ram 3500. Can anyone give me some tips on doing a factory order? Also, what type of discount should I expect on a special order. When I purchased my 2020 I got just under 18% off MSRP. Times have changed, and I don't think I could get that much of a discount now. Thanks for any help!

You are not far from Des Moines, so call Granger Motors up there. If you order a truck, they are at 4% under invoice, so about 11.5% off of MSRP. Worked great for me last year, no hassles at all. That is probably the best deal you are going to find these days.

Also test drive the 2500 and the 3500. If you don’t need the bed payload of the 3500, get the 2500. They both tow the same amount. The 2500 rides so much better. Coils (2500) in rear vs leaf springs (3500). When I test drove the SRW 3500, I asked the salesman “Does it have a rear suspension, or do they just weld the axle to the frame?” It rode that bad compared to my 2500.

The 3500 has leaf springs that is why it has a harsher ride then the 2500 with Coils, sometimes I think they put coils in the 2500 to make it ride more like a Car/SUV, but then is also has a smaller payload then the 3500 with leaf springs and IIRC the 3500 can have 4.10 gears that increase tow capacity...

That's very true. I test drove a couple of 3500's last year before ordering out my 2500. I already owned an 18 2500 with factory air suspension, and do not need the extra specs the 3500 has. But thought about future proofing and stepping up the 1 ton anyway. Test drives killed that idea. Totally get it if you need the capacities of the 3500, and most do that haul RV's of any size. But there is a big difference in unloaded driving.

Thanks for the info. They are a 3hr drive for me. Right now I am not sure what I want. I can get the Ford A plan that gets me a decked out F350 Lariat for 71k. I test drove a 3500 and it was very rough. When I got back into my 1500 it felt like a Lexus. One thing that is putting me off from the Ram 3500 is the massive humps on the floor on the passenger side and back. The 1500 doesn't have that. The Ford F350 doesn't have it either. I will give them a call and see what price they give me on a 3500 Laramie. Best my local Ram dealership would do is 79700 off 85000MSRP. One plus for the Ram is the height fits into my garage. The Ford is off by about 1inch requiring it to sit outside.

The humps are because the cabs are the old style not like the 5th gen 1500s. The passenger side and rear of the 1500's are flat. In the 2500 and 3500 they have big humps because they use the 4th gen chassis. I saw they were Ford dealers too. My nephew works at Ford building vans so I can use his A plan. I assume that plan is the same at any dealer, but I will get a quote just to be sure. My local Ford quoted me 71k for a Lariat 350 SRW with nearly all the options and Godzilla engine. Maybe they can do better. I sent my Ram build off to them, now I am waiting to hear back.
