Howdy folks,
We have been skimping by the past 5+ years by paying other people to haul our equipment for us or borrowing trailers, but finally decided to bite the bullet and get a truck that can allow us to do our own hauling. Selling one of our 1500's tomorrow for 21k (2018 Ecodiesel with 75k miles) and then planning to put that money towards a down payment on a 3500. Since we're only hauling a few times per year, and that too, potentially short (<20 miles) to medium (<100 miles) distance, I'd like to get a shortbed and effectively use it for typical day to day things as well. The trailer will be ~35 feet, with a GVWR rating of around 20-22k (Yes I'm aware of the payload concerns).
I'm aiming for a 2020+ Laramie with Aisin, safety package, towing tech package, and ideally rear auto level air suspension too. I know I wont be able to find one with those features while still being under warranty (although I did find one but it didnt have the safety package with lane keep and blind spot detection).
Are there any major things that I should be aware of in terms of using a gooseneck with a shortbed truck? How serious are the concerns about cab clearance? I did find this https://www.bwtrailerhitches.com/products/extend-a-goose-gooseneck-coupler?variant=31844729716851 to potentially help with that a bit
Thank you,
