I've been planning a 3.92 gear swap for a while. 3.21's and 35's don't agree too well. I've been trying to research the specifics of the swap before I buy stuff and tear my truck apart. Even with searching the forum it seems to be a mix bag of information.

What all is required for a 2010 diff swap in a 2016? I've read that the carriers have a different passenger mount, and possibly the motor mount is different? pinion flange? CV axles? I found a walk thru from another member a while back but since the forum update I can't seem to find it again.

I found a 2010 local to me at a u-pull yard that has 3.92 gears according to the build sheet. And a factory LSD (Not the best in the world but better than my open rear diff) I was figuring on pulling the front diff and complete rear axle to swap into mine as that seems to be the better all around option. I could order gears and a trutrac for my rear diff. So the rear isn't the big issue. I'm just wanting to verify and consolidate information for the front diff into one area that way I know what I need to get and also anyone wanting to do this in the future.

If you can find a 3.92 diff from a 2012 and newer it’s a straight swap in. 100%. No modifications. Otherwise you have to modify engine mounts and diff brackets. There’s a whole thread somewhere on here about it.

That's the thing, I remember the thread. But I can't find it again, and I don't remember what all is needed. I'd like to pull everything in one shot if possible. Not something that's happening tomorrow but I'd like to get all my ducks in a row for it. In the meantime I'm still looking for a 12+ because I knew that it was a bolt in swap.

Can you open up the diffs and swap the guts from the 2010 diff into your 2016?

but then you still have a POS gen 4 front diff that has a 500$ output shaft replacement cost when it goes bad.

Do the Gen 3 swap I posted my DIY when I did it. and there 2 other DIY threads about it, just search the forum

Seriously do 456s gears.

I've about lost my mind with the new forum and lost features. I forgot who posted the thread and soon as you commented I clicked your profile trying to search your threads and it only shows comments. 20 pages worth going back to May 11, 2020

How are 4.56's with 35's on the highway? I don't have any plans to go to a bigger tire. My truck won't fit in the garage then.

Before considering 4.56 gears that the ZF 8 spd in your truck first gear is 4.71 where as the RFE 6 spd first gear is 3.0, I believe DILLIGAF truck has a 6spd. Even 2nd gear in the ZF is lower at 3.23. The difference at highway speeds will be 400-500 rpms higher with 4:56. With having more gears the ZF ratio spacing is better and doesn't have the large 3-4 jump like the RFE does.

I have the 8 speed with 3.92 gears. 4.56 gears are to much in my opinion unless you are running 37s or larger. I have 35s and at 80 mph run about 2100 rpm. For the 5 or 6spd guys 4.56 is great
