I have a 2014 1500 4x4 and have a slight variation on the highway but when in 4x4 under acceleration it get a lot worse. Haw hard is the oem joint to get out? It looks like there are tabs pressed onto the caps

I would make sure the u-joint is the problem first. Pull the driveshaft and check it. I like to mark the driveshaft so it goes back in the same way. If you do find the u-joint needs replacing I would take the driveshaft to a shop and have them replace it and check the balance. I have found that the u-joints rust into place something fierce and even with a 12 ton press at my disposal they are a ***** to get out and put back in without damaging them. Do not beat on them with a hammer like you see on YouTube. I have replaced a few and I will never do another one again, life is too short.

Yes you can I had to a few days while I was waiting for my ds spacer to come in the mail. I wouldn't do in rain or anything but if your talking to and from the ds shop then you will be fine

I guess I should have said you can but I wouldn't.

You have an open hole in your T-case without the driveshaft in and round debris and water (in rain) will get in not to mention the fluid can splash out to some extent.

That was the concern of mine but there is an inner seal also on the output shaft that stops that issue. Like I said for the sake of just getting crap and grime in there I would keep it short and not in rain or heavy dirt but it is fine if you're going to a shop and back

What?

No you don’t. The output shaft is sticking out of the t-case just like the pinion shaft on the front axle. The drive shaft is just a link between the two. Doesn’t keep stuff from falling out or in.

^^^ Unless the Ram is different the driveshaft yoke slips over the output shaft and fills the void between the shaft and the seal.

Without the driveshaft in place their is a void between the two.

I haven't looked to close at mine yet so I could be wrong. If there is no yoke and it bolts in place like it does on the diff there won't be any issues.

Since the Ram is independent front suspension the diff should not move and it wouldn't need a yoke so you may be right.

You are forgetting there is the inner shaft seal nothing is wide open. Like I said I wouldn't want a ton of **** or moisture in there but a little driving is perfectly fine

I drove mine for about 1,000 miles without the front drive shaft chasing a vibration at 70 MPH / 2000 RPMs.

No issue to drive without it. None.

Now, without your CVs? That would be bad. Without the front drive shaft? It's fine.
