Fuel pump problem

I have a 97 5.9 12V. I am thinking of installing a off the shelf electric. Fuel pump to replace the mechanical lift pump. Question! Is this advisable, what if any problems should I expect . You guys have been a great help in the past and I at 80yo I really appreciate your kind help.
