Fuel Pump replacement

I need to replace my fuel pump on my 2012 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi 4 x 4.
I would like to remove the bed to access the tank/fuel pump. Is this possible?
Is there anything special I should know? Any help/suggestions appreciated.

Just drop the tank, its faster.

Drop the tank. That way you can clean it out instead of installing a new pump in an old contaminated tank. Also, not all fuel pumps are accessible from the top because they are partially under the cab.

Yea, and while it's down give all of those evap system parts and plumbing a good once over. Replace anything that even remotely looks dry rotted or cracked. Use OEM sensors if you replace any of those.

There are some reasons to pull the BED off

If you have a fuel tank that is 1/2 full or more, pull the bed
When you lift the Tank up under the bed, it is real easy to pinch the Hoses & to break off the fittings that you connect the hoses to.
The electrical wires are not easy to fasten

Almost every repair shop lifts the bed out of the way,
The Dodge Dealership pulled my bed recently.

Pulling the bed is absolutely possible and a lot of people prefer it over dropping the tank. When the bed is off, access to the Is fuel pump module is much easier and safer. Just be prepared for rusty bed bolts and unplug the tail light wiring before lifting.

Many years ago when the fuel pump in my 2000 F-150 failed and I had to be towed, the tow truck driver told me he cut an access hole in the bed of his truck, and made a plate to go over it. I don't know how that would work in the Ram, but I thought it was a great idea! It was a regular cab, and my current Ram is as well. I suspect the extended cabs might be over the fuel pump?

The first thing he did when he came out was go under and bang on the tank with the key on to see if he could get the pump to work temporarily, so I could drive it home, but it wouldn't spin.

if my truck was a model year 2000 i would have no problem cutting a hole in the box
other than that its not hard to drop the tank.
