Mine has 7,800 miles on it now, and I can get 18 in the city, but it drops off big time on the highway. At 75 MPH it drops to 15 MPG. Don't expect the fuel economy to get much better.

Using non-ethanol I get 18 City/15 Highway.

It's about 1.5 MPG worse in the city using ethanol.

I have no clue on the thumping.

not sure if 1500's have ANC but it has been an issue on new 2500/3500 if it stops when you roll your windows down that is the issue.

Do you have the 33 gallon fuel tank, and is it mostly happening at stop and starting

I do have the 33 gal tank...
I've driven it for a week....400 mi...
No sound till yesterday....
Kinda sounds similar to my 09 5.7 when cylinders shut down ,except that was more of a steady quiet rumble....

less mileage on the highway? Makes no sense.
It does with 3.92 gearing, especially since he has the etorque with the auto stop/start feature. Mine is the same way and I don't even have the etorque.

huh. My 96 Dakota with 318 (5.2) nd 3.91/3,92 gearing is definitely better on an all highway trip than in town. with "mostly highway" its still better but not by as much.

Today I actually was averaging 17. 5 mpg cruising @ 74 mph...w 500 miles on odometer....
Same route and driving conditions....
Hopefully it gets a tad better...As for the thumping noise,I do believe it has a lot to do when in eco mode...Didn't hear it at all after driving for about an hour....Go figure...

drop down to 7th gear at 73 mph for a mile on flat land

Then if you hear the noise, you will have eliminated MDS as the cause

I have the exact same thumping sound you describe with my 2022 Rebel 5.7 (etorque). Usually happens at slower speeds with a slight constant pressure on the gas pedal, it is annoying. I've had it back to the dealer 3 times for a total of 10 days since January. Each time they gave me a different explanation. I wont be going back to them, bought the truck there, but I'd like to find out what it is.

Can't speak on the 2022's but on my 2019......I had a loud vibration noice early on.....took the dealer a couple of times to fix it after I found a TSB describing the problem.....they did a download and the truck has been great since. It was ANC related. On the 5th generation forum the problem is discussed and you can find the TSB listed. Good luck. BTW.....my truck gets 20 to 21 mpg on our two lane roads with the cruise set at 55.....on the freeways set at 65....I get the same.

They all have it. When the thumping starts roll your window down. It will stop when the window gets to about half way. Roll it back up and it will start again.

It’s the ANC system gone whack. You need to take it to a dealer. Have them verify and then they will order a new amp for you. Which is currently on backorder.

If you can’t stand the thumping then there are posts on here about how to disconnect the ANC mics which essentially turns off the ANC system and stops the thumping.

Also, the ANC system will make some weird noises with ECO mode. If you hear ECO without the ANC it’s a raspy exhaust note. The ANC, if working properly will almost eliminate it. If it isn’t working properly then the ANC will kind of amplify it, cancel it, amplify it, cancel it…type thing.

Ram really messed up the ANC system in these trucks.
