I know there are not many people on here with hd's with the manual shift transfer case. If anyone on here has one can you do me a favor and shift into 4wd go 55 mph and let off of the gas 100%? If you do that can you hear any unusual noises, mainly a growing noise coming from the front axle or transfer case?
Thanks

I am not 100% sure on this but I don't think you should go over 45mph in 4x4 at least that's what my older dodge (2005) said in the manual

not sure about he newer ones

They mainly say that for liability reasons because if you do it on dry pavement take a corner and lose control it isn't their fault.

I don't know man, there is no way in hell if I'm using 4x4 will I be going 55mph. I thought in 4HI the limit was 45? I'm not willing to test this and have something go wrong as far as the front axle or transfer case.

I think the fastest I've gone is 75 or so by mistake... Usually I lock it in and go, there is no technical limit for 4 hi. Your front axle is the same as the rear so it can go faster than the truck can even go. The transfer case just locks the front and rear driveshafts together, there is no gear reduction or anything so it will be fine as well. Your limiting factor is the driving conditions.
Regardless I ended up driving a power wagon and it had zero noise at all. So I get to take my truck back because in the 3 weeks they had it they couldn't seem to do anything without having their hands held.

The 2014 Owner's Manual doesn't list a top speed for 4 hi. It only says not to do the shift into 4 hi over 55 mph. Once you are in, I don't see any speed limit from Ram.

You can't catch a break

I'm about 12 days away from doing a lemon law on my truck and buying a moped. Unlike my 1500 every problem I have with my truck is fixable. The problem is I can't find a dealer who will fix anything.

When I was having a little trouble I worked the phones and spoke to a couple of different dealer's service managers. I found one that was very interested in getting my truck fixed and wanted his dealership to win my business for my next truck.

Turns out telling my more conveniently located dealer about that lit a fire under them and they did whatever they had to do to keep my business.

I took it to the dealer I bought it from. They told me everything was normal and it is normal for that rear axle to make noise. That has now been rebuilt and no noise. The 4wd noise though is more pressing to me because it sounds like something is going to come apart under deceleration. The sad part is I was sent to that dealer by my Co worker who used to work there. So he is going to go back down with me a morning this week and talk to the service director to tell him that his technician is incompetent and to have someone who can actually fix stuff work on it. I work with a lot of ex chrysler techs and they have all heard horrible stories about this guy. I just got blessed enough to have him work on my truck.

Its good, actually, that its just a tech problem and not a dealership that just doesn't want to cooperate. I'm sure they'll step up once they understand what's happening.

You would think that. However the service manager was with me on the power wagon test drive and he drove my truck. He says any manual shift transfer case will make that noise. Even though I proved that the power wagon didn't make noise he said there was nothing he could do for my truck. Hence why I have to go above him to the service director. I'm just sick of dealing with dealerships!

Don't have the manual 4x4 shift, wish I did, but there is a little difference in noise in my front end when engaged. Probably not the same as yours, but something I can notice at least.

Shoot 4x4 high, not sure where you guys are getting your info speed wise.... My last three dodges has been for only shifting advice, and all where to not shift into 4x4 above 55mph due to the engagement, or not under throttle. Raptor I believe is up to 100mph :naughty:

lol - I hit 65mph all the time in 4x4 round here in the winter. Most of the time will stick to 2by till I have to pass, or if the roads aren't plowed too well.

Well if you would have kept your transforce tires you wouldn't be driving everywhere in 2wd!

Not really, they will wear out in about 15000 miles so I wouldn't consider them even a good warm weather tire.
