I have a 2017 2500 offroad I am looking to see if anyone knows goof shop on the front range to do a swap to either 4.56 or 4.88. If you have where did you go, how much, and what improvement did you see.

You might have better luck posting your question in the "Engine and Performance" section.

Or if you're a little further south, Rocky Mountain Competitive Research (RMCR) in The Springs. They're the only ones I'll let touch my vehicles. You can call Michael @ 719-574-0625‬. They've done all the builds on my Jeep, including the current one that's in progress as we speak. But they're the best in the country IMO. All master certified technicians, with decades of experience in everything auto. But they stay quite busy.

@Uscav18 did you happen to reach out to either of these shops and ask for a quote?
I'm doing same mod, I've called a 5-star shop in Denver, before I saw these recommendations to you, and I would like to compare info without wasting the shop's time hitting them up.
Personal recommendations go along way, especially of this caliber. I'm right next to Col Springs and I'll use them if there even close in price, I'm sure they are.
I have the 6 speed, 35s and wanting to go 37s, so my research told me 4.88. I currently have 4.10. Even if I stay on 35s the trucks gotta go lower gears.
The shop estimator made me nervous about 4.88 being to low but I think its cause all you 8 speeders have a better designed tranny gear ratios then mine and 4.10 or 4.56 is perfect for you, maybe.

Anyway, if you get this ...thanks

Hey @wink what manufacture of gear set does RMCR use?

Have You gone lower than a 4:56, and if so Was the gear set quiet or did it whine?

Dude that I Called told me to expect a whine with any gears lower then 4:56. they use nitro sets. Any body else have a gear set lower than 4:56 that is noisy or quiet?

thank You

if I thread jacked I apologize I didn't think another thread Was necessary...........yet

Just about every aftermarket gear for these axles whines regardless of the gear ratio. Ive used just about every brand you can buy, and always go back to OEM to keep the noise down. Unfortunately, when going 4.56's, OEM is not an option.

Hey thank you for feedback @Hemi450hp. I have headers and run MT tires, I guess if I hear the diffs above all that I could turn the stereo up. For Even more noise I could ask my wife to talk a bit, I'll never hear the gears again and yet I'll still hear nothing but whine... Lol she thinks I'm funny, sometimes.

Seriously tho, is the noise that intolerable? Right now i feel I can accept a bit of noise versus accepting the par low end performance. I very rarely see 6th gear unless its wide open and no one around, so not too often.

I have 4.10s, steep 1st thru 3rd tranny gear in my 8500lb lovebug with a 6.4L. I have no where else to go but aftermarket if I want to get this truck right.

Oh yeah I live at 7000 ft and drive higher almost immediately out of the rack.

I'm thinking 4.88 and 37s, but I'm also about to toss cookies thinking if I get it wrong......

They'll use whatever you want. I've not had them do work on the Ram diff...yet. But they installed a Wavetrac in my Jeep several years back. I broke it from too much power, so we put the OEM back in until my new rear end arrived. We put a complete Strange 9" rear in with an ARB locker. Got it from Western Differential. Never hear much whine, but I also have headers, so... I can tell you after Zack installed each, no more clunking back there.

I don't see an Other Hemi forum here, unless I missed it. But here's a pic of my Jeep. RMCR is just about ready you fire her up. Just an example of the quality of their work. I couldn't be happier.

Sorry to revive an old thread but its right inline with what I'm looking for too. Moved to the front range a few years ago and none of my truck buddies have done any gear swaps yet. Looking to add some 4.88 gears to my 2500 6.4L. The info in this thread is several years old and pre-covid, so I'm just looking for an update on reputable shops anywhere along the front range to do this work. Couple of places I've quoted have been everywhere from just under $3k to almost $4k. I don't mind paying for quality work but that just seems high and basing off of Google reviews doesn't put confidence in these various 4x4 or axle shops.
