I find getting the pinion depth right the most difficult. I never had a pinion depth gage. So relied on the pervious shims and pinion markings. Using the new pinion markings and add'n or subtracting the numbers and then adding or subtracting shims to get the depth. Once the pinion is set then getting the ring to print good I found easy. Backlash usually would only take a small adjustment of the carrier to be in spec. Having the tool to hold the yoke when torquing the pinion nut is also essential. Anyone doing it on their own gets my kudo's.
