I find getting the pinion depth right the most difficult. I never had a pinion depth gage. So relied on the pervious shims and pinion markings. Using the new pinion markings and add'n or subtracting the numbers and then adding or subtracting shims to get the depth. Once the pinion is set then getting the ring to print good I found easy. Backlash usually would only take a small adjustment of the carrier to be in spec. Having the tool to hold the yoke when torquing the pinion nut is also essential. Anyone doing it on their own gets my kudo's.

I did it with some help from an experienced tech. Mine being a 2500 was much easier than the 1500 guys but I did the general tear down (axle shafts, front brakes, front wheel bearings, tie rod front axle shafts etc) I took apart the carriers and measured rotating torque as per his instructions then when it was time for re assembly he basically did it all with me as the spare set of hands. I think we came in at around 10 hours of labor.

There's alot more work doing a 4wd, that front must be a *****. But they are quick coming out of the hole.... I've owned a couple 4wd trucks but never had the balls to launch in 4wd.
