LOL, same here. I'm 68, Mrs is 65. We moved in to this house 20 years ago this month and have never seen one trick-or-treater.

We would decorate, turn on all the lights, have tons of candy ready...
crickets.

When we were little, Halloween was a real hoot. When we were became adults we enjoyed the laughter and frivolity seen and heard throughout the neighborhood as the kids ran around.

Good times, but our street is empty, not enough homes to make it worth it for them and the kids go elsewhere.

Yeah, we couldn't find a decent place close to the factory - most people here are lifers, so their houses never hit the market - they keep them in the family or know someone who wants the home. Something like 70% have never moved. Very insular place. So we had to head outward and get a piece of acreage. At first, old farmers would come around with hay wagons full of kids. Now days everyone's gnarly and political and stay inside. Damn shame.

A new thing is holding a central party, like at the schools. Sounds like a good idea for the benefit of the kids. I'm 67, fwiw.

Same experience here. We moved into this neighborhood 14 years ago and have never seen a trick or treater. Pretty much every local church hosts a trunk or treat event, usually several days before Halloween.

The church just a couple doors away had a "trunk or treat" event this year, but we usually go the other way when we leave the house, and didn't see the sign until after. They had it last weekend! It's close enough that we could have walked!

I find the whole trunk or treat thing a bit strange, I guess I'm just comparing it to my childhood. The neighborhood where I grew up in Yonkers NY in the very early 80s, the sidewalks on Halloween night were like trying to navigate the aisles at Walmart, people literally everywhere tripping over each other. And trick or treating was ALWAYS on Halloween night, no matter what day of the week it landed on. This whole thing of setting up a candy flea market in a parking lot 6 days before Halloween just kinda sucks the fun out of what I remember as a kid. Damn, maybe I really am getting old, I'm only 51 but feel the urge to go yell at people to get off my lawn...

We get a lot of trick or treating but definitely much less this year due to this trunk or treat thing. Id say we were opening the door from 4-7.

This month, November 2025, marks 51 years in this location.
I'll be 79 this December.
In all that time I'll bet I haven't seen 50 "Trick or Treaters" of any age.

The weird thing is I live across the street from an elementary school.
Of the 10 houses on my block, since '74, there have only been about 7 or 8 kids that lived here spread out over the years.

My 4 grand kids go to the Halloween Farmers Market and the church event and a few neighbors where they live.

There are several streets in high end neighborhoods, like Pasadena and San Marino that are known for their Halloween displays so parents drive miles to see the madness.

As others have mentioned, "Trick or Treating" was a major deal years ago.
I think the media, like everything else it touches, posting info about razor blades and bad stuff happening to the kids, just makes the parents paranoid so they put the damper on the fun.

In our old house we'd get about 200 kids for Trick or Treat. We bought our current house in 1997 and were getting 350 each Halloween each year. Our neighborhood has 360 homes and was a drive in destination, meaning parents from smaller areas would come to it and drop kids off because of all the homes. About 5 years ago it all started to change with fewer and fewer coming each year.

For the last three years we stopped giving out treats because it got so slow. Sad, but it seems like the world has changed in the wrong direction.

Bit late, we are on a quite street, had about 30 kids of all sizes, a bit more then last year. One fellow i know has around 100-125 near the center of town.
Sounds like a lot of work, We had some bags of candy/ ity bity chocolate bars left over, that I have to clean up before they get old, I remember when they made these 2x the size.

A few blocks away there are a few houses that really get into extreme decorating, takes weeks to get it done, same with Xmas. about 5 all on the same block.
