New and have a Tire Question

Hello,

New to the forum and just had a question. I have a rough country 2 inch leveling kit on my 2014 Ram. I am looking at getting 33 12.5 r20 tires out on it. My question is do I need wheel spacers or will I clear everything with the leveling kit.

welcome to the club. wheel spacers are not a good idea imho. i had a 4door jeep and i got one that had been rolled. it had brand new 33s but the wheels weren’t the same as my jeep so i opted for wheel spacers. long story short i got a panic phone call from the wife that the wheel had fallen off the jeep as she was booking down the road. when i got it home it was obvious what happened the studs broke off. i bought best ones i could find i will never do that again.

I believe 12.5” wide on some factory wheels will have the tire rub on the upper control arm. Measure the distance from your current tire to the ball joint area of the control arm…there has to be room for half the width of however much wider the new tires will be.

The 4th gens come stock with 33’s. The issue is the width…especially with factory wheels. Its not an issue with rubbing body, its that the tire rubs on the control arm and you cant even drive it unless you put spacers on.

so different rims needed. imho never use spacers. others may say it’s fine but in my experience they are a disaster waiting to happen

Get the equivalent tire in a metric size, like

I'd go 305/55/20. 12 wide should clear on a stock rim, where as a 12.4 could rub and require spacers.

I know I put 315 70 17 on my 24 warlock, and I had 3/8 clearance to the front upper control arm, so I added a 3/8 hub centric spacer for additional clearance.

Warlock has a 1.4 inch front lift from the factory. Same as the outdoorsman

You can go shorter and wider in a 33x12.5x20 or go to 34" in 275/65/20. The 275s are readily available and abundant brands and styles. My 19 classic runs like the 275/65/30 should have been on it from start. Will also give another 1/2" ground clearance.
