Has anyone ever swapped an NV3500 behind a 318?

My 46re tranny quit on me today. It's been acting up for a few weeks and finally died.

I'm thinking about doing a 5 speed swap now that I have the opportunity, and have found an NV3500 with transfer case out of a '95 chevy pickup available for $500. Just curious if anyone has swapped one behind a 318? Will I need a different flywheel & housing or will it bolt right up?

I'm 100% certain the bell housing will be different. My 98 Dakota 318 had the nv3500. Chevy starters are block mounted and dodge mounts theirs to the bell housing. Is the front drive shaft on the same side as your ram? Transfer case angle the same. The chevy has IFS so it might be tucked up a little higher. Justthings to consider.

Also don't forget the pilot bushing. You really need a donor truck for all the miscellaneous little parts you will need. Pedals, brackets, wiring etc. I too enjoy rowing my own gears, however a well built 46re will be better than a standard shift.

I see this is an old topic but if you get the NV3500 from a 2000's Dakota, it will bolt right up, Clutch flywheel and pilot bushing required of course.
