I'm new to the forum and completely new to dodge (or trucks in general really). Hopefully I'm not beating a dead horse with these questions but I'm having trouble finding/understanding some problems I'm having related to transmission.

98 Ram 1500 5.2 5 speed MT 4x4

I just got this truck on a trade and the original owner blew the manual transmission. He gave me an automatic transmission including the torque converter and a new transfercase and told me that the transmission just needs to be installed and I need to get a steering column with the column shifter for an automatic.

Q1: Is it really that simple of a swap? I do notice the automatic has an 8-pin round sensor plug on it that is not on the trucks existing wiring harness.

Q2: I'm considering just searching for a replacement manual transmission. Is the automatic transfer case he gave me compatible with the manual transmission?

Q3: Probably a stupid question but is the NV3500 going to be the same for 94-04 1500 and the 94-04 Dakota? Trying to figure out what vehicles I can find this transmission on and be sure it'll work for my truck.

Q4: If I put the auto in I'm assuming the drive shaft and probably some other things need to be specifically from an automatic donor truck?

I'm sure I've got more questions I can't think of but ultimately, I'd like to keep it manual but I'm trying to get this thing on the road ASAP without spending too much just yet.

Short simple answer is replace the existing manual trans with the same type of trans. Otherwise you are in for more headaches than it sounds like you know how to fix.

Ritchie Rich is right. Sell the automatic and put the money towards a replacement manual transmission. You’ll save yourself a great deal of headaches. Not to mention the manual transmission trucks are more fun to drive and generally less prone to transmission issues.
