okay stupid question. I have a 16 ram 1500 Laramie and I’m looking at upgrading my headlight housing. I’m sure I have the projector headlights, but can anyone tell me exactly what cones factory in the 16’s. Thanks.

Go with Modifystreet/Alpharex.

There is a thread here hundreds of posts long with much information.

Best bang for buck replacement housing available on the market today.

I'd think going aftermarket when you already have the OEMs would be a step down?

Not necessarily. Most aftermarket a similar in quality or slightly better projector. The modifystreet/alpharex 2019 style have a similar projector to the tyc replacement oem style projectors. Which has a slightly crisper cut off compared to oem.

The problem is most aftermarket headlights aren't designed to work with truck's that came with projectors. At this point alpharex (is the "manufacturer" who you can buy directly from or when buying through ebay/Amazon are sold through modifystreet) when contacted have a harness that will go from the projector harness to the "quad" lamp connectors that 99% of the aftermarket is designed for
