Within the past 2 years the heater in the old Dodge produces luke warm heat.. It's not a daily driver for I am fixing it up but last winter which became a VERY cold season here in South Carolina I have tried everything I could think of to determine what it could be. So far I replaced the thermostat, flushed the radiator, checked the air pump which closes and opens the heater doors and what’s strange enough the heater core housing near the glove box gets extremely hot..I am not sure if something is causing the heat to not pass through the vents the fan and AC is working fine produces goood cold air in the summer but lesser hot air in the winter. If this is a heater core issue than how hard it is to replace? I imagine that you have to take apart the top dash which will crack it even more than its cracked now..Any suggestions?

I do in deed. Was just going over it to check the order of everything.

From what I have seen it very easy could be the door in the HVAC box. there is a capble that will move a door to switch from cold to warm if that comes off then it won't change. But I'll post up my writeup and answer any questions you may have about tearing out the Dash if you decide to take this on yourself.

I knew this would be a project when fall comes around this year..

Thanks for the DYI.. I do hear slushing water when the heater is on full blast near the heater core area.. I am thinking its faulty and may as well replace it before winter comes around

Actually sir that could just be low coolant with air in the lines. Check your overflow tank on the passenger side of the Radiator. If there is air in the system you will hear it slosh around in that area. If that tank is empty pick ya up some half and half coolant and with the truck cold as in not reunning for a while open the radiator cap. fill it up to the top then close it and put some in the jug. Start the truck and let it get warm to where the thermostat will open up. It will burp itself and all the air will be gone.
