Guys,

Anyone ever had there heated steering wheel stop working? If I hit the button, it stays on for about 2 seconds them comes right off...anyone ever have this issue?

I would check a fuse but I'm under the impression that if it was a fuse, the button wouldn't light at all, though I much better with mechanics than electronics...lol

thank you for any help!

Mine stays on as long as I want. It stays heated until my hands sweat if wanted.

If it's going on for a second or two and then turning off, I would guess that there is a short or grounding issue that the system is detecting and then turning off the switch.

I just had the exact same issue with mine. The dealer tried to fix it last week by replacing the steering wheel but that didn't help. They figured it out and it's getting fixed tomorrow. Here are the details from last week's invoice. I'm guessing you have the same issue.

"Heated steering wheel was not working. Found code B10C4-13 Heated steering wheel control - circuits open. Tested the circuitry for good power and ground, all checked good. Found no excessive resistance in the circuits. Replaced the heated steering wheel per service information. Code came back. Went through the diagnosis again but after replacing the steering wheel it is now saying the HSM (Heated Seat Module) must be replaced. Ordered part."

Fortunately this was covered under warranty, hopefully yours is too.

Hi Slowpar R/T,

As the poster above showed, it there may be a module that needs to be replaced, but I would advise having an official diagnosis completed so you can be sure. If you need any assistance with that, please don't hesitate to send a PM!

It will do this if the system detects a fault. Do the heated seats work?

You'll need a scan tool that can read the code from the HSMM, so a dealer trip is likely in order.

Yes, my heated seats still work fine so evidently there's something in that module that controls the heated steering wheel as well.

The wheel was working fine when I was driving home one night and then halfway home I noticed my hands weren't as warm. I looked down and the light was off. I tried turning it on again but it would just click back off after 2 seconds, just like yours.

The module that controls the heated seats is the same one that controls the wheel. It's located under the driver's seat. It's only connection to the wheel is the heating element. The temperature sensor for the wheel communicates with the module through the data bus so there is no direct connection. Based on the behavior, it is likely that it is detecting a fault.

Possible cause:
-Internal short or open inside the wheel in either the heating element or temperature sensor
-Damaged wiring between the wheel and clockspring
-Damaged wiring between clockspring and module

I seem to recall there being a known issue with wires being damaged in the steering column. I'll see if I can find a TSB.

Well ditch what I said before. Just got back from the dealer and they replaced the module. The heated steering still doesn't work. The dealer is out of ideas as they have replaced everything in the chain. They are going to open a case with the manufacturer. I hope you have more luck.

My money is on a bad connector or a bad clockspring. If they replaced the wheel and the HSMM, the only part left in the system is the clockspring.

Thanks for the advice, I'll mention it to my service writer. He said they checked it but who knows...

Here's a weird one... Mine used to get nice and hot and stay that way the whole time it was on, now it maybe heats up to 1/3rd of the heat that it had before, or doesn't heat up at all. The light stays on when I have it selected so it's not faulting out there.

I'm weary of taking it to the dealer because I feel like if it's not just kicking the light off right away they're going to say everything is fine.

Just an FYI with mine. $500 later, dealer traced it down to an electrical bulkhead fitting broke where the firewall rubber boot is. The company I had install the Drone Mobile remote start & Infotainment.com aftermarket backup camera kit screwed up. They broke the fitting while pushing the wires through.

Mine is a 2022 RAM 3500 Laramie Longhorn crew cab 4x4. I bought the extended warranty because, well, you know. It was in to the Dealership in June, for the non-heating steering wheel and a few other minor thing. The service advisor told me that the tech said that they needed to replace the entire steering wheel. The replacement wheel was supposed to be in back in September. It wasn't. Then the beginning of October. Again, you guessed it, it wasn't. It's back-ordered with no available delivery date.

I called Stellanis Customer care (case number is 94317910). I've gotten several return calls and 3 or 4 emails, but of course, spending $104K on a vehicle now days doesn't even rate an intelligent reply. ...I'm sorry your part is on back-order with no known delivery date. We will elevate the problem...

My "part?" really? It may as well be a computer reply. They don't even seen to know what the problem is and reading the forums, there seems to be many different issues that might cause this years long problem that Stellanis hasn't ever bother addressing. RAM is still building these. Someone somewhere is still manufacturing the new steering wheels for the new cars, so why can't they get a replacement for mine? Right now, I don't care if they pull the wheel off a new car on the line... just fix the damn problem.
