Hello all! I have a problem. Maybe steer me in the right direction? Truck stall and stranded.

Hello everyone!
I’m new here and read rules and such . I apologize if this isn’t the correct location.

I have a 2006 Ram 1500 4x4 Regular cab 4.7 with 6 spd. manual.
I have taken really good care of this truck I bought in 08 with 12,000 miles.
It now has 338,000 on it and I’ve done minimal work outside of preventive maintenance.
I decided to drive the truck on a road trip for work 4 hrs from home.
Yesterday I was driving along about 35 miles per hour and the truck just suddenly stalled. I got it to a safe place and tried for a while to get it restarted.

The engine turns over great and will sputter a little but never start.

Back story:
1-It has had a gas cap code for over a year . I left my gas cap at a pump while filling. I’ve bought 2 new caps still have the code. Hasn’t affected anything.
2- I plugged in the OBD and the only code is the gas cap.
3-When the engine died it was pouring rain.

I’m thinking the easiest thing would be the fuel pump relay?

If you were here, where is the place you would start.
I think when I get it home , I will park it and start on a restore.
Thanks for any help you can offer!

I’d definitely start with the relay especially since it has no other codes besides the gas cap. If it sputters it’s most likely got spark but no fuel. Relay could be the ticket if you have the ability to pick one up where you are at as they are cheap compared to a tow service.

Maybe you can obtain a can of starting fluid to see if it fires up with that, then you will know fuel is the issue.

Thanks guys!
Funny thing is I’ve always loved old cars and trucks but the symptoms and fixes on the later generation of vehicles is an entirely new deal for me.
Keep the ideas coming! I appreciate it fellas!
