New guy. Looking at getting a new truck this summer. I currently drive an 06 Tahoe. I'm looking into Dodge, Chevy and Ford. I'll be asking questions here and there. Hopefully you guys can convince me to pick up the Ram. As of now it's at the top of the list. I just have to figure our the difference between the 5 million models of the 1500 there are. I know I want the Hemi, 4x4, 4 door and the center console. Color matching bumpers and grille would be a plus but not a must-have. What year did the Auto 4wd get introduced and is it reliable? I really like the CHevy Auto 4wd.

Welcome...

And if your looking to get color matched bumpers you need to get ya a SPORT model.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure the little twist nobby thingy (electric switch) was introduced in 2006. BUt I could be wrong.

Your on the right track...just get your self in a Dodge. Plenty of members here and vendors here to get your truck the way you want it

What he said and I believe it was 06 too. If you are getting into the 4th gens, you can also get color matched bumpers with an express

The Ram sport is what you are looking for, bumpers painted to match, they can be loaded up with a lot of options like leather, ect ect, i hope some one will chime in later on the 4x4 question. Test drive and research every truck than find the one you like the most.
IMO you the most truck for the money with dodge.

welcome,
actually there were pre 06 models that had the 4x4 switch on the dash, but i think he is talking about auto 4x4 not full time 4x4. My truck is a 2011 and i have the "auto" 4 wheel drive as well as "full time" 4 wheel drive

Welcome to RF! If you want painted grille and bumpers you have the Sport, Express, and Outdoorsman to choose from I believe. If you want the center console and auto-4wd then that limits you to the Sport and the Outdoorsman. Sport being all one color and Outdoorsman being 2-tone. There's other differences between the 2 as well.

Hello,
I see you are looking and probably looking intensly about now,,, we did a lot of searching and almost bought a 2008 f-450 but after understanding that fords 6.0, 6.4 and also their 6.7 v-8 are all POS, i have been livin with our 2006 f-250 for 2 years and nothing but regular payments and extended warrenty deductables every month except this january,,but we did have 2 claims in february.

I would stay away from ford with every breath you have,,,chevy is right on their heels too for electrical probs and motor probs,,,,,,this is why i just did a Dodge Ram 3500 4x4 dually crew cab 8' box with 4.10 gears 20,000 lb trailer capacity, factory order,,,,seriously check it out man !

Just got back from ford again just today,,engine light and 4x4 would not work after they worked on it this last friday and i tried to use it sunday,,,i was gone for 3 days so i got in today,,,,,,,vacume line was broken and they done an inhouse EGR replacment due to having replaced the EGR valve last October and it was with in their warranty plus they rolled back my millage to claim it but it was with in time limits,,,tellin ya dude,,,,stay clear of the Fords,,,,i could post a scaned copy of reciept to proof it so ya know iam not BSn ya.

Take care now,,i'll stop twistin your ear,,,,, do a lot of reading on as many forums as possible and then do NOT use the carfax,,,,carfax is not reported to by ford due to all the problems,,legaly they do not have to,,,i almost bought that f450 after a carfax and then with all my problems,,,,took the vin of it to local ford where iam very well known and they done a vin check for me for free just to give me an idea as to its past mechanical history,,,,,,look around ,,, do what i did,,,,get the vin and call a ford shop and ask if they would just bring it up and say how many issues it had,,,simple as going on here at RF. ask the owner if it had any issues and then tell them what ya did and you will mostlikly have to tell them you pass because they said nothing except regular oil changes . the report says radiator was changed 2 times and no. 5 intake valve rocker was shattered, fuel pump was replaced, 6 injectors replaced over 2 years, Fuel Injection Control Module and it was all on a 2008---@4 year old truck,,,,,anny wayssssss,,,good luck and may the great truck builder gods be with you :005:

That's me! YOu on there?

Thanks for all the info guys! You answered some questions for me. Making it easier for me to make the transition. I'm looking at a '10 Sport right now with about 35k miles on it. Anything in particular for that year I should be looking out for? Or any 4th gen year for that matter? Also, I'm noticing the 5.7 comes with a single or dual exhaust. Is that just a trim level option?

What changed from 09 to 10 that enables you to tune?
