I wonder how rising gas prices will affect large truck and SUV price tags this time around. In early 2000's when oil price went up, everyone wanted hybrids or small economy cars and dealerships were offering great deals on gas "gazzlers". Maybe a good time to buy one of them in the near future. Interesting article talks about current oil situation:

The people buying the expensive gas guzzlers won't stop buying what they need. It will limit how much they drive but won't stop people. They still need to haul a big family or tow their camper or work trucks. You got to remember inflation is here but inflation on wages are right there as well. This will be the new norm or we will crash and vehicle prices won't go down till then. If the economy crashes prices won't go down till material cost go down.

It will. Especially if high energy prices push us toward recession. Fuel is a significant part of a lot of people's budget and, at the same time, a lot of people live week to week and have nothing in reserve. They just can't handle any sudden uptick in expenses. Repos tick up, people trade into smaller cars, etc. Some people can weather it, and if you can and you want a new vehicle it's a good time to snag one. I'm watching with interest, but I still think it'll be a year or two before we start seeing real movement on pricing.

You can see in history thanks to the internet. Most recent 2008 crash trucks still went up but not crazy amounts it took awhile. New trucks still cost a bunch but it will be back to the 5-10k loss once you drive it off the lot used market will go back down to where it needs.

@Docwagon1776
Interest rate will be a big one. We will see housing and auto loan go up a few points in the next couple months. If you haven't bought a house or truck you better do it soon.

MSRPs don't tend to go down, but actual sales prices do. When sales flat line, rebates and incentives increase.

I don't have to finance, and will only do so if returns on very low risk investments are better than the interest on a loan.

Yes that will happen the rebate and incentives will come back better. that awesome you dont finance i only do it to keep my cash flow stable and pay off when cash flow is really good. not many people have that luxury of being able to do that. If the economy does slow down the used market will be flooded again and people will be forced to sell cheap that is when you will see the first signs. We wont see that for awhile you will see that with ford first as they still have tons of truck sitting waiting for chips.

I watched one local gas station raise their prices 5x in one day (it's across the street from me). They didn't even receive a delivery that day. Seems to me that people are trying to capitalize and get rich off of this drama.

My wife wants a Bronco but we haven't been able to find one in stock unless it has a $20k ADM on it. I figure in two years we can buy her Bronco at MSRP - rebates. Of course the flip side is my paper losses for this year would have easily bought a couple of Broncos, but I'm not retiring tomorrow and I'm sure it'll come back before I'm ready to pull the plug.

Yep im in the same boat is why i ended up with a new 2022 3500. i didnt not need to spend the money but i got slapped in the face last year with taxes lol.
cant see them taking all my money like that and no return in items. Ford broncos are really hard to find if you find one and really want it you will have to pay.
give it another couple months and i think all vehicles will be hard to come by. look at how many issues people are having with getting their trucks with ALL the
items they wanted. lead time are getting longer and longer even compared to December.

Can you not order one through a dealer that is doing 3-4% off invoice on Fords, like Granger for example, with a similar markdown? Or at least without the nonsense ADM?

I know Granger is doing similar markdowns on most of the trucks, Raptor (and maybe Tremor) aside. And I believe they do pretty well on the Mustang markdowns too. Never inquired about their pricing on Broncos, though I'd be curious.

when i tried to get my mitts on a power wagon last july there were a grand total of 6 that would fit my bill left in Canada.when you need a truck,you need a truck.i did get a decent deal on it after explaining to the sales manager how another dealer sold my deposited truck out from under me.where i live there is a Ford,Ram and GM dealership.GM has nothing in their lot for trucks,Ford has maybe 4 and ram has about a dozen light duty 1500's and maybe 2 hd's.deals? highly unlikely.

You can order one, but you won't get it for years due to the way Ford is allocating Broncos. Granger took a ton of orders when customer orders were supposed to not count for allocation, but Ford changed the rules and now they have more orders than they can fill by 2025...
