It can definitely be done. Might just get the cheap one on eBay or amazon though and buy a quality filter. Last I checked they ran about $45.

You might want to check prices on PVC pipe. I don't even see any available at my Home Depot. All construction prices are through the roof. It might be cheaper to just do the cheaper 45 dollar CAI like stated above. The filter is going to cost you 30-40 bucks on the cheap end.

Its not hard to do at all. You might just check prices because I know here in TX a piece of plywood is 46 bucks a sheet. Boards are like 17 dollars a board. Shingles are just as high. pushing 100 bucks a square.

Very doable.
I completely made mine starting with a Vararam "Air Grabber" kit not made for the 3rd gen Rams then kitbashed, moved some things around under the hood and re-engineered it to work.
Then I finished it off with a removable snorkel to pull air from underneath the grill.

The 1st generation Durango 5.9 has a factory cold air setup for hood clearance with better flow than the stock 2nd generation trucks. Check it out there are a **** load of Durango around
