Quick question. If I make a CAI system would i have to make it to go off to the side? I am asking because i have the SRT-10 hood and i was going to make it that i could just have it point straight out and take in the air coming in from the hood. I just dont want rain to come into the filter and just F everything up.

Sure just have straight pvc pipe with a cone or flat filter at the end.
Put on a couple of dry charger wraps for rainy days.

That's exactly what I'm looking for. Where did you get the rubber couplings and the pipes? I'm assuming they are just PVC ImageUploadedByTapatalk1354508768.670616.jpg this is my front end now

you ever get around to doing this, I volunteer to be your test dummy!!!!!!!!
I dont know what happened to him personally, but he ended up taking alot of money from mutiple people and not delivering the intakes. It basically ruined his name and the company all together. JJ used to work with him, so I'm sure he knows much more about what happened than I do.

As for building these myself, I have not even looked into this. I would rather it be made of plastic than metal, but this might be something for me to take on in the future.

PCA4208, our SRT hoods do not bring in any air at all....in fact the scoop is actually a vent for hot air. As you drive it is designed to pull the hot air out, so you woulnt benefit much from this as it is not a true ram-air hood

Oh that sucks.. I guess I'll just make it so that it goes off to the side and down like a normal intake

Figured I'd give it a shot...paint didn't turn out so well, but it should perform a little better.

I plan to use the stock box and run a cold air line down behind the bumper.

My Dodge ran better keeping the quiet box attached to the tb. I tried both ways, straight pipe to air filter and the quiet box, straight remaining pipe with high flow air filter. 2nd option won IMO.

Edit***remember metal piping transfers engine heat quicker making the air intake temp hotter...

Colder is better.

I've found that unless you plan to tune, you get little to nothing from a CAI alone.

Most vehicles now a days, come with a factory designed cold air intake already. The main point for me was to try and get less drag, a better free flow of incoming colder air into the engine. On certain designs, we really cant beat the Engineer's first call.

What are they using to plug in the Air Temp sensor? I Am building myself my CAI, and this is where Im stuck. My Ebay bought CAI also did not come with one, so I drilled a hole and stuck it in there with silicone...

If you must make a homemade intake, use a rubber grommet. Just sticking it in there and dumping silicone around it will not only look terrible but over time will come loose and leak from everywhere.

Just took off my old Ebay intake... I had the sensor held by black Sealant silicone. After four years, I'm impressed how good it held. I had to use a knife to cut it out of the chrome aluminum tube it was in. It also took me a while to get all that silicone off of the sensor, which by the way, still has some on it. I was finally able to get around and install my 3" Electric conduit DIY intake... Will explain more about it in the next post (With pics)

So after reading somewhere about the "Black Mamba" CAI, I decided to build my own. I'd like to give credit to the inventor of this DIY Cold Air Intake, unfortunately, its been so long since I've read about it, I don't know who came up with it. If any of y'all can remember him, please do comment his name, as he is to be credited.

So what's a "Black Mamba" Cold Air intake?
Well its an 3" 90Degree bent PVC Electric Conduit tube. You can find them at any hardware store, and under $10 dollars. One end has a 4" Outside diameter entrance, which will hold a 4" K&N air filter very well. The 3" end with a rubber coupler will match the Throttle body's mouth as well. Pretty neat as it is a one piece CAI.

When I bought my 1st CAI off of EBAY, I had my HEMI hat removed, hence not having a sensor plug on it. I then lost the HEMI Hat. That's what stalled me from installing my DIY "Black Mamba" intake for quite some years, even after having all the components at hand. I've recently found the hat whilst cleaning the garage, and decided to take off the sensor plug. glued it to my DIY CAI tube, and painted the whole thing red, to match my truck. I think the whole setup looks good.
