Hood scoop question

its a fiberglass scoop. What kind of bonding apoxy do I need too put between the steel and the scoop?

Have you thought about riveting it on like they used to do with scoop on the old cobras, the rivets actually become part of the design plus it ain't com'n lose. Just a thought.

This is a good suggestion, If you try to make it look like its not a bolt on scoop then you will spend a ton of time and $$$ to get it to look good and you might as well have spent that $$$ on a cowl hood in the first place... Paint it to match or how ever and rivet it on and will look better IMO.

Trey has a point. Line it up and tape it in place. Drill 1/8" holes and rivet it down. If you're good with body filler and fiberglass you could even have it transition into the hood and look factory made

I'm no paint and body man, please chime in if you know, but molded in filler between metal and fiberglass is going to crack eventually from what I've been told. Go black like your stripe and use silver/aluminum rivets, that would look killer!

If you get the basic shape down with fiberglass and use your filler over that you should be good. Be a lot of work though.

I just did the Jeep louvers similar to Nightmare not long ago. Used rivets as well. I like it.

Yeah that's how I was gonna do it anyways was riveting it . already got paint, fiberglass, body filler and all my sandpaper I need. I just need too know what kind of glue too put between it so it doesn't eventually crack. I've heard fiberglass and steel don't bond well unless you use the proper glue

I would leave the rivets showing. I was big into custom vans back in the late 70s when I was a teenager and we'd mold in our wheel well flares and they looked great, but always, eventually, the bonding would crack. Maybe the bonding is different now?

Stop by your local auto body supply store and ask the counter guys, personally I'd rivet it down and leave the rivets exposed too

Bondo is a no go. Fiberglass or "Kitty Hair" is what you'll want to use.

Alternatively like as mentioned, you can leave rivets or sheet metal screws exposed. I love how it looks on mine. When I get ready to do body work and paint I'm going to fill the lines in the hood to make it flow a little better, but for now it still looks pretty good.

To me it looks like it might buckle or ripple in the front because it looks like it isn't sitting flush to the nose of the hood. Probably want to start at the back and work your way toward the front. If you know anyone that has clecos, they would come in handy to fit the scoop before permanent installation

thanks for the input guys. I was planning on putting rivets all the way around it anyways and putting some fiberglass too steel bonding agent in between it. Afterwards fiberglassing all the way around and sanding her down afterwards. Putting some body filler around her then sand it down again and make it smooth so it looks like it's made into the hood already. I just don't want it too crack. Cause I've heard that from tons of people
