can i drive 3 hours on the highway without hurting my truck? i have been told that it heats up the valves or somethin... i have a 180 t stat but have to put it in...
obviously i will have to wear earplugs or somethin, but i just want to get it together so i can drive it again...
any input??

When is it sopp to come in? If you have the abilitly to do it then run true duals and forget the y pipe. I would be leary on doing it between the exhaust gas coming in the cab, poss fire issue. I cant say for sure on if damage will be done to the motor because alot of us run cut outs before the y but thats for racing mainly.

You can drive it. The only way you would damage the valves is running the truck with no exhaust at all, just exhaust dumping right out the ports in the heads.

It should not hurt the engine at all. But I would not run it that long. The fumes going into the cab would not be good for you.

The ear plugs will be a must. Loud as all hell. In cab is like 120db.

Could run lean with open heders at highway speeds. If you have a w/band, keep an eye on the A/F gauge. Cops might be interested in why you are running around without mufflers. I'd wait or put it on a trailer.

When I had my 04 hemi ram, I pulled the exhaust off from the big muffler back, so it was the factory headers, cats, into the Y, single pipe pointed straight back that ends under the back seats, it was loud as he'll (and I loved it) and I ran this setup for months on end without ever having a problem. No exhaust knocking me out in the cabin or anything and luckily no tickets and this was in VA beach where they write illegal exhaust tickets if they just THINK you have a pin sized hole in your muffler.

If I were you the biggest concerns I would have would be that those headers are significantly shorter than the setup I described before and if they aren't a header with cats built into the very end... I don't think I would even risk it, because noise and hot exhaust gas is one thing, but shootin flames is a whole nother ball of smoldering truck on the side of the highway... IMUO

I wouldn't but if you are or have to go to the parts store and buy some turndowns to point the exhaustdown and away from the truck so you don't get any flames up under the truck and the exhaust gasses will be pointed out from under the truck. Should just have to clamp them on. But I would only do that as a last resort.
