HI!

I have a 2007 Dodge RAM 1500 / 5,7 Hemi

When I start the Motor (cold) the idle speed begins with 1450 for 30 seconds, then 1100 for 20 Seconds, then lower.....

When I start the Motor (warm) the idle speed begins 1300 for 20 seconds, then 900 for 20 Seconds, then 600.

My question is, if this is nomal that a motor runs for so many seconds with such a high idle speed??

Thanks and regards

Alois (from Germany)

Yes. You need to give the truck some time to warm up, get the oil warm too. And when it's already warm, that just means its idling at easier pace, because the oil and the motor are already warm and in the engine.

I would understand the high idle speed, when the motor ist cold. But why does the motor need when he ist warm.
And I think nowone waits one minute, till the idle speed gets slower - so that technical thing is for nothing - isnt it??

I do, mainly because I put in my phone and pick out a song to play.

Seems alill long, wifes 05 with stock computer spikes on start up for 2-3 seconds and then settles into idle. Her truck cold idle is 800ish, my truck winter idle till warm is 850. Her stock idle is 500, mine 650.

Mine takes a bit to warm up in the winter time, a few minutes max, but once you start driving and it warms up it drops down lower. Summer time it still does it just not as long

My idle was like clockwork at 650 Tom's but lately its dropped down to 500 and its much rougher at that mark. Once it even stalled when it was down to 500. I'd like to get it back up to 650. Any idea how?

The high idle at start up is normal. Mine does the exact same thing and take a minute or two to get down to normal idle. Cold or warm engine alike.

Thanks fpr your informations

very very strange, that there are RAM's where the idle speed is like mine, and at others not
I will go next month to my dealers garage to check the control coputer, cause i am nerved, to put the frist gear, with an idle speed of 1300 and higher.

i was at an american car meeting. there were 3 rams 3 gen.
all 3 had an idle speed of 650 U/min after 20 seconds.
there was an mechanic, too - he said that it is not ok, that my ram needs 1 Minute to reduce the idle speed from 1400 to 650 U/min. But he could not say, what the problem is. I think my motor gets leak air!!??

Does it surge at all? If not, try cleaning the IAC Valve....and give the TB a good cleaning.

Mine in park at 650 and in gear it will idle at 550.
