Howdy all, kinda new to this section of the forum, but not the forum itself. Been lurking and learning the last week or so learning about the 4th gens as im thinking about upgrading from my 01 second gen to one! An 09 or 10 1500 seems to fit into my price range. So ive got a few questions before I go looking at them.

1: Besides usual used vehicle inspection lists, anything else I need to be on the look out for?
2: I see the 13's/14's have a ball joint issue when leveled, does that plague the 09-12 trucks as well? Leveling, or a mild ift, was something I wanted to do.
3: I see these trucks dont use rear leaf springs, is there anything with these rear coils I need to look for? If I look at a mildly lifted one, how are the rears lifted properly?
4: What would a fair price on say an 09-10 1500 truck, 4 door, hemi, auto, 4x4 be around? Ive seen them ranging all the place in price up here, anywhere from $17k all the way up $23k or so. Just a ballpark estimate would be great.

Thats all ive got for now but Im sure Ill have more as I learn more about these trucks! Thanks for any help! :) These trucks sure are a different animal then my 2nd gen 4x4 haha.

Hey man, from Ontario as well, bought a 2010 SLT Quad cab last June. I'm not nearly as Ram/Mopar educated as the rest of these folks but pricewise, mine was at 53,000 kms, Hemi, 4X4, Remote start, tow package, rear sliding window, chrome appearance package, running boards, bedliner and whatever else an SLT has..

Bought it from Team Chrysler in Mississauga, was $24k, got them down to $22k. Can't imagine prices being too far off in cottage country. I'd make sure the recalls are done, especially the rear pinion nut. Otherwise, I havent had any issues at all, runs great..just a hair under 70,000 kms now...and from what I've read, leveling 09-12s is not an issue, I'm throwing on an HBS 2.5" soon at the front.

agreed with having any recalls serviced.

the 09-12 4th gens UCA / ball joints are cabable of handling a leveling kit, however the ZONE UCA's are still suggested.

its hard to suggest an average price without seeing some possible options your looking at. that would help you get better responses from the members here.

I hadnt heard about the pinion nut recall, thanks for the tip. Ive been lookin at trucks in the Toronto area a lot, not to much in my area thats not way to much.

Is this the kit here? Would that level the truck out after installation?

Heres a few I had found online:
2010 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab Sport 4X4 5.7L HEMI Leather | cars & trucks | City of Toronto | Kijiji
2009 DODGE RAM 1500 SPORT 4X4-NAVIAGTION-LEATHER & SUNROOF | cars & trucks | City of Toronto | Kijiji
2009 Dodge Ram SLT | cars & trucks | Ottawa | Kijiji

Thanks for the info guys! :D

If you go 100k plus on mileage, make sure you request service records on all fluid changes/spark plugs/brakes, or you're looking at dropping good change to get all that done right away..and worse, have mechanical failures with no warranty to cover it.

Even with the powertrain warranty, if still valid, they can say no if you can't prove that scheduled maintenance was performed.

What's your max price anyway??

Don't worry about putting zone UCA's on it. I had a rough country leveling kit on my 2011 for 50,000 kms and just sold the truck. I checked the ball joints and everything was fine. It's just the 2013+ that have that issue.

Ok I will keep that in mind as well, a dealer would have all that right?
Are the receipts enough to prove it was all done? Sorry ive never bought from a dealer before so this is a whole new experience to me haha.

I was thinking $20k, but Ill go up a bit if I need to for the right rig.

What kinda lift is that? Spacers, shocks er?

Ok I just wasnt sure if the 09-12 trucks did it as well. I was thinking of using the bilstein shocks for the front level.

Thanks for the info guys :D

if the services were done at that dealer, then yes, they should. i personally maintain all my service records in my vehicle folder, so at times, when trading in, the previous owner will hand in those service records too.

No problem. They go up to 2.5 lift. I didn't want to go to high was worried about uca. If the coils and struts are still good you could just do a leveling plate. Like this.

Front Leveling Kits

I just noticed it says for coil over suspension? Do you need coil-overs to use the shocks? Or is that stock how its set-up? Sorry IFS is again a whole new world to me haha. Im use to my solid axle on my 01 :Sumo:

Perfect, I will have to make sure to ask for them when Im looking. Just getting my 01 certified this week, so hopefully it should be sold in the near future.

It's both the coil and strut already together. I had 50k miles and everything was shot. If ur coils and struts are good just use a strut leveling kit.

Im gonna have to get a diagram to look at so I know what goes where haha. Are the coils and struts one part? Yeah gonna have to make sure everything is replaced on it depending on the mileage. The spacers? That would probably be easiest.

Check out Peel Chrysler in Mississauga, lowest prices in Canada. I didn't even know they existed until recently, I went in and almost got me a 2014 SLT with everything I have on mine + 3.92's and LSD for under 30k, but insurance didn't work out. They freakin' offered me 20.5k taxes in for my truck lol, when another dealer 20 minutes away offered 17k taxes in.

People fly in from all over the country to buy from these guys.

They have a 2009 fully loaded & certified red sport at 102,000 kms for 23k, I bet you could get them to lower it.

Also see if the tierod recall was done and if the torque converter rumbles at about 45 up hill more like a shudder. Those are two things that most 09 and 10 have if you are in tune with vehicle you will feel the torque converter the tierod one you can't really tell unless it breaks which is why it was recalled it was weak and tended to just snap I guess.

I test drove that one and it has engine problems - there is a weird hissing sound.

I had not heard of either of those problems either, thank you!
