Hello everyone. Gary here from Connecticut. Picked up a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi a few weeks ago. I just went through a gritty divorce.... was able to keep my home and with that I have some projects I been wanting to do and miss having a truck. I also plan on doing a bit of towing here/there. My last truck was a 2001 GMC Sierra 1500. Before that truck I owned a 1986 Chevy C10, a 1978 Ford F150 and a 1987 Ford Ranger.
Never had a Dodge or Chrysler product. Only experiences I have with a Chrysler product were my mom's 3 minivans. I was mainly looking at 2nd gens with a 318 or 360. I'm glad I held out for a 3rd gen. This Hemi barks! It ain't my daily vehicle thankfully (I drive a Subaru Impreza) because it gulps the gas. Engine is super quiet, no "Hemi tick". I believe 2005 is a good year as it is the last year for the Hemi in a Ram without the MDS. It has 134k on it. Other than the inner rockers, the truck is rust free. It is way wayyyy stronger than the 4.8 Sierra I had and the brakes are extremely better!
It has a Rough Country 4" lift. The bed is off a southern truck. I bought it with a known bad o2 sensor and a bad wiper motor. Fixed those issues. I also replaced the 4wd switch on top of the transfer case since the 4wd light wasn't coming on, replaced an outer tie rod and had an alignment done since both front wheels were wearing on the outside tread bad. I did a bit of corrosion control on the inner rockers yesterday and replaced the tailgate hinges and cables. I picked up running boards for it which I will be installing soon. Next up, I want to troubleshoot the inoperable cruise control and do some preventative rust measures on that clean bed since I know these are notorious for rusting out in the wheel wells. I also have a DiabloSport tuner I used on my GMC which I may do on this truck.
