I installed a new fuel pump in my Dodge ram today. We removed 07b7599b2dc63979727144ed4d39cc2b.jpg1548bfb299798a06c3377a25d78ab759.jpg57c96a74ec3c2498432d4be9daf6dddf.jpgbf3a94942e7560267de004f41b978c62.jpg8f1be74975b69a35853aaeb37113eb80.jpgthe tailgate, spare tire, and all but the right rear bed bolt. We backed that one out 1/2 way.
We removed the tail lights and disconnected the wiring. There is a ground wire connection right behind the cab on the right side that we had to disconnect. Then we lifted and pryed The bed up until we could reach the fuel pump. It was quite an ordeal but all went well!

Yeah, we usually just pull the bed on these, as opposed to dropping tank. Never tried your approach - leaning the bed over - simply because we had the means to easily R + R the bed. Last several we did took under an hour. One of the perks of having an in with a local high school auto shop - strong backs to lift the bed off LOL

The only time I had the pleasure of replacing the fuel pump in my '97 was laying in the dirt camp while deer hunting out in the boonies.:)
I didn't know about removing the bed so we did it the hard way by lowering the tank.:biggun:

I wonder which is easier, when it's all said & done (lifting bed up/off or dropping tank). I loosened the 2 nuts holding the straps and, with a jack under a piece of wooden shelving supporting the tank and undo'ing fill/breather hoses, slowly lowered to ground. My personal choice would be that method, but, ...tomayto - tomahhhhto.

It's awesome when the new one is in though, regardless of how you got it there!!!
