My fuel lines, both supply and return at the fuel filter housing started leaking at the plastic disconnects on the same day. The steel lines were rotten at the connection. When I tried to disconnect the nylon lines, both broke off. Of course, the breaking off part didn't happen on the same day.
I spent the last month trying to get the right parts to repair the supply side. I didn't realize the return was also leaking at the connector. Poor troubleshooting on my part. Only today after I had repaired the supply side (new steel line, new plastic disconnect, nylon line and union) did I realize the return was leaking. I tried to disconnect the connector and the steel line broke off in my hand.
I spent the last month trying to get the correct parts to do the job right, but that return line is the one that connects to the back of the block. No way I can get to that banjo fitting. Luckily it broke off with just enough room to get a rubber fuel line and clamp on it. Grafted in the fuel line after cutting the connector off. No leaks!
The line coming off the bottom of the filter housing was seeping fuel however so I've ordered a new one. That's three lines gone bad at the same time.
Those plastic disconnects work great on new lines. They don't work at all on rusty lines. And I was very surprised and happy when the push on union (like on a fridge water line) worked like they were supposed to. I had to use clips to lock them in place but they didn't leak.
The whole time I was contorted in under the fender all I could think of was the ending of Kelly's Heros when Moriarty is complaining to Oddball about the fuel system of the Panzer he just bought from the Germans. We have the same Bosch Fuel system.
