Has anyone had this issue with intake manifold bolts being stripped. ? I’m getting a p300 and 0304 code upon random startups . You can definitely tell when the truck initially starts it acts like it’s starved for fuel or air .... then idles rough for about 5 secs and then runs normal. Sometimes the check engine light comes on sometimes it doesn’t ...

I know my throttle body bolts are stripped... I’ve tried helicoils with no luck (they don’t get right enough) was thinking of filling the holes and retapping g (if I do that what should I use )

Or just buy a new intake manifold and install it . How involved of a job is that? Should I pay to have it done?

If you take a can of carb cleaner and spray it around the intake while running does the engine rev up?

P0300 is a random misfire code, sort of a precursor to a plug/coil/wire failure in a specific cylinder code.

P0304 means you have a misfire in cylinder #4. It could be an intake gasket leak but normally it indicates a plug, wire or coil pack failure.

As for the stripped intake bolts, can you turn them into studs with nuts and washers? If so, make yourself some studs and get some Loctite 620. Put the studs in with the 620 and let it cure. They aren't ever coming out again.

How do I make studs? Find some that fit tight in holes? Glue them in and then use nuts on the top? I’ve read that a cracked or leaking intake manifold could cause those codes. So this will be my first thing to try.

Use the test with some starting fluid with the engine running at idle.

Spray it near the intake manifold directly above each cylinder, i.e., 4 spots per side of the engine.

If the idle surges as you spray, you definitely have an intake manifold vacuum leak near that location.

You can buy the threaded rod online. Lots on eBay. Find out what size the bolts are now and what the thread count and pitch is and order it. (Take one of the bolts into Lowes. They have a size board at the specialty bolt bins. (Metric) Use a nut to back off the threads to reshape them after cutting the rod. Loctite them in with the 620 I mentioned above. They don't have to be tight when you install them. Loctite 620 is a retaining compound. When it cures, they are there to stay. We use it in gunsmithing.
