I have a 21 ram 1500 5.7 hemi bighorn. Sometimes on start up since i bought it July of 22, at 9k miles it will let out a big puff of blue smoke...... I'm close to 20k on it now and it's doing it more often......i would really like to dump this thing... so disappointed...... and i just know I'm gonna get the run around from dodge. Should i dump it or take it to dodge and see what they'll do......F'd up

stock 5.7 with 6.4l cam and MDS delete
blue = oil !!!!
probably valve seals.
at worst its piston rings or head gasket.
premature failure for sure.
that has warranty written all over it!

does it have power or performance issues?
If not i would be inclined to think its valve seals.

Dealer under warranty for sure, depending on how that goes if it’s gonna be a never ending issue dump on a dealer that doesn’t know it smokes.

OP, Well and fwiw, my 2017 HEMI would occasionally do that. I changed out the PVC with a new one and that fixed it.

Maybe checking to see if the PVC is clogged/gummed up. And just because it rattles it could still need to be replaced or cleaned out.

I've read that that "improper" direction/placement of the PVC could cause "puff of smoke" to come out at start up, especially an cold engine that has sat overnight.

As redundant as my HEMI's issue on this very similar situation reads here to whomever, replacing the PVC and making sure that the "little hole" at the top is facing towards the "front" of the engine corrected my HEMI's occasional "smoking ordeal".

Heck, I'm still considering adding an Oil Catch Can for an even better measure of keeping the throttle body cleaner.

My HEMI is fine now as to what I did fixed the issue.

Jm2¢ and good luck.

So it puffed blue when you bought it, and has for 11,000 miles. It is under full bumper to bumper warranty, you had to have done at least 2 oil changes, and you haven't bothered to even take it to a dealer to be looked at because you think, guess, assume, anticipate, it is going to be a hassle. Can you explain exactly what you would like the members to help you out with?
