My 1500 has the factory installed LED bed lighting, but I would like to add to it to get more light up front. Anyone know if the wiring for the factory lights will be able to handle more LED lights? Probably just a simple light strip under the bed rail. I would think it should, it wouldn't be much of an added load.

I added a strip of lights all the way around the bed of mine. I tapped the factory bed lighting behind the passenger side taillight. No issues so far and I can use the switch in the cab to turn the lights on and off.6140fcb3fe593963219262ee8312268b.jpg

That's pretty cool - what did you use for lights?

I did the same thing on my 2014 CC which did not have bed lighting so I tapped into the trailor plug wiring for batt 12v.

FWIW a 5M or 15ft reel of 5050 SMD LEDs pulls about 5amps for the full length which is about what it takes to do whats above. If it can handle the extra 5amps you should be good.

Side note, my new 18 laramie does NOT have bed lights surprisingly but i would love to now if they run the wiring harness there still?

Amazon 5050 smd led strip lights. I think I ended up cutting 12" off the end.

the wiring for my factory bed lights runs up behind the passenger side taillight but i had to get under the truck to find it.
