from the sounds of your situation, it would almost be a crime not to go with a powerwagon instead. and if your not in a big rush you can wait 3months for the unveiling of the 2020 and see what it has to offer. if you dont like what you see you could still snag a ,19 from the lot or even order one most likely

Good point. And if the OP likes the tradesman he could get one with the PW package. Would handle everything he needs to tow / haul plus have more capability for outdoor / off-road activities...

A Power Wagon is under strong consideration. All depends on what I sell my Toyota for. Fortunately they hold their value well.

I second the Power Wagon. It also rides smoother than a regular 2500 as well, making it much more driveable on a daily basis. I daily mine.

The redesign is put on hold so January will just be another Gen 4.

Below is from a very reliable source that got this from corporate.....

"In January the "reveal" will be a 19 with a "refresh". It will not be a 20 model. There were exactly zero details on the new sheet metal past that. There are other internal communications that say the same thing. A "complete" redesign looks like it's on hold"

Power Wagon is an awesome truck. Just have to be okay with stopping at the gas station a Lot. If you are okay with that you can't beat it for it's off road capability.

Wouldn't that be nice! I'd be okay with that.
From the feedback this source had he thought part of the reason for the holding back on the redesign of the HD was because the 1500 redesign had lack luster sales and in general people weren't super excited about the new body style?.

I'd love to hear why its just a strong consideration and not your first choice

even if i towed around a 10k trailer 4days a week and never spent a moment offroad I still wouldn't take a regular 2500 over a wagon. it just wouldn't make sense to do so imo

if money is a concearn then look to a tradesman with wagon package

I predict plenty of regret before your even finished signing on the dotted line if you go with regular 2500

Probably the same reason I didn't buy the PW. I LOVE the concept of the truck but I wanted to be able to toss 2000-3500 pounds in the back if I needed to which the PW doesn't allow. It's a great truck and looks awesome but just isn't designed for real hd truck use.....now hard off road use it can't be beat.

Same for me. I wanted a Granite Crystal Gray Laramie PW. I remember telling the salesman that it was the best looking truck he had on the lot. However, once I started looking at specs and comparing them to what I actually planned to do with the truck, I opted for regular 2500 in Granite Crystal gray and haven't regretted it for a second.

Truck fell through - dealer wouldn’t honor the price they offered last week so I passed. I’m going to see if my local guy can find a no options Power Wagon. I’d like to spend less than $48k before trade in, not sure how practical that is.

The PW is light in payload. I've got a loaded/Laramie, RamBox, sunroof, anti-assrot seats. Payload is just over 1000lbs. My fat ass, my son, 500 lbs of corn, generator, tools, all ready for a weekend of work at the deer lease and I'm over 1500 lbs. It doesn't squat, plus the tires and axles are well under. I'm ready to try another 500 lbs. Just not in a fat chick.

Rumors are that 2019 and 2020's will be refresh models years for the 4th gens. The new 5th generation will most likely be unveiled early 2020 and go into production that spring/summer as a 2021, similar to how FCA rolled out the 1500 platform.

I’d be willing to be you could get into a tradesman PW for 44-45k.

I would spring for a tradesman diesel.... and upgrade it to be more capable than a power wagon-
To get a 3/4 ton or even a 1ton to have the suspension characteristics of a power wagon would not be very difficult, and prolly wouldnt cost to much.

Plus you get all the hp/tq in the world...
Good fuel mileage for a 3/4 or 1 ton slinging 37”s..

$48k seems like a generous starting point. I have a 6.4 big horn CC 4x4 sticker at $52K. had towing power mirrors, trailer brakes, factory rear air suspension all which makes towing so easy. also had the 8.4 non nav, blue tooth, rear camera, 4.10. got it for under 40.

where in Oregon are you? Hate to sound like a broken record but check out Dennis Dillon in Boise, ID

Completely agree. Have almost the same truck, sticker was ~$52K and paid ~ $42K. Shop around for sure.

you can find a real wagon with most options for 48k. just stay away from sunroof and luxury package as these items add several thousand to the price. tradsmen wagon im guessing would be in the low or mid 40's k but you would probly have to order one of them

I put a pallet at 2,150lbs. in the back of mine & it didn't even quiet level it. I keep tire pressure around 60lbs. & the back tires just slightly started to bulge like the front tires do. It seems to support a heavy load much better than the Ford's I see running down the road.
