I have a 2014 RAM 3500 Laramie 4x4 with the 6.7 Diesel engine. I have the pickup to tow our 22 foot TT. I started an 8000 mile trip with 7100 miles on the Odometer. By the time I got to 14000 indicated miles the rear tires were at the wear bar and the front tires were still good. I ended up changing the tires for a set of BFG Dueler A/T and after 3000 miles of towing show little or no wear. The OEM tires had even wear and the load included the trailer tongue weight of 560 Lbs. and about 300 Lbs of gear in the pickup bed. I was told when I traded the tries that if I'd rotated the tires at least once I could have gotten up to 20K miles on that set. 20K miles? That must be a joke or is the tires that come on a one ton pickup that bad?

Tires on new vehicles (esp. trucks) are designed to be 2 things: quiet and smooth. Unfortunately this translates to soft and and quickly worn. Barely got 18k out of the stocks on my 1500 with rotations every 5k. Sucks to hear the Firestone's have the same issue. LT's to boot. Damn shame.

Dont mean to be rude or anything but......you didnt rotate them at all? Of course youre going to get premature wear. I think its every 6k or something? Dude, rotate your damn tires. Its $20/free vs. over $1000 for new ones. Like pip said they arent made for long wear. I have over 3k on my 1 ton and i have almost 3000 pounds of weight on the rear when towing. Havent notcied any uneven wear yet

That s great news about the stockers. :flipthebird: Currently have 2300 miles on mine and they still look new. Very littl of that milage is around town though. Leaving for a 3000 mile trip in 10 days so we'll see how much wear they have I get home. This may be a great excuse for me to get new meats for our longer trip this Christmas. Surely could use the better tread of the ST Maxx in the winter weather then.

My truck is 3 yrs old, and has just under 13k on it....tires are fine and wearing even...but I did have them rotated @ 6500 miles.

Don't mean to be rude to you either, but 3000 miles is no indicator of tire performance. Even if OP had rotated his tires, 20,000 miles life expectancy is a joke in this day and age. Should be more like 40 to 45K on LT with heavy loads.

Gp on tire rack, the factory Firestone tires that ram uses are junk. If you buy the same tires from a tire store you will get the full 50k or so out of them. Ram just wanted to cut costs with these tires.

I've got 33K on my OEM 20" Badyears. I have rotated them religiously every 6K. Now, they wont make 40K as promised, but they will last until the first frost this year when I'll ditch them for something (I hope) better. :burnout:

My last truck had E rated BF Goodrich All Terrain TA K/O tires. They were awesome! I sold the truck with 51,000 miles and still had another 5 or 10K miles before I got to the wear bars. My 2015 has 11K miles on it and the Firestones look pretty good still. I have no complaints about them at this point. When its time to replace, I am going straight for the new All Terrain's.

Actually 3000 miles is an indicator. I just used a gauge at 3600 miles and I got 11mm vs 9mm :) oh well. of course I'm towing a huge toy hauler too. He IS talking about a 1 ton diesel that he was towing a decent size trailer with most of those miles ( I assume) on factory tires without rotating and how do you know what conditions he's driving on. You know the manufacturer is gonna throw the cheapest rubber they can on there. I would expect at least 20k but not 40 when using the thing as a truck. I'm sure those figures you want to see are maximum mileage under the BEST conditions. I'm just saying he should definitely have gotten more if he rotated

I didn't tow with my truck for the first 3000 miles and I measured 3/32 difference front to rear on my truck. At 6k they were showing as about 40% worn. Dodge used to put Michelin ltx tires on their trucks and they wore to 60k no matter how you would use the truck. The Michelin tires on my neighbors gmc 3500 look brand new at 20k and he carries a 3k pickup camper half the time.

Idk. I'm not saying they are good tires. But the worse the tire, the more you should follow the rotation schedule. When I switch, I'm going to be spending some bucks on a good set.

My buddy and I both have 2500's that came with the firestone tires. He got his last year, 2014 truck; and I just got mine last month.

He just bought new tires at 20k miles; they were worn through. I'm watching mine and will be coming back to the forum for help picking the best one. Our 20" factory rims don't fit nearly as many tire sizes as the stock 20" rims on my previous Tundra or Ram 1500.

Just ready to turn 24k on my oem firestones. That includes about 9k of towing a 13k 5'er. That said, have had about 4 rotations and having now about 3/32 rear and 5/32 front, will do one last rotation for the season and the life of the tires. Sure not the best wearing tire and am hoping that Michelin will do better as a higher percentage of my driving will now be towing. I did, for about the last thousand miles, reduce the empty driving pressure on the rear tires to 65 psi. The monitoring system didn't complain at 65. Think that will help some with wear as well.

I think thats what I have on mine, sounds right without going out to check them. I have about 87000 on them right now, and they should make it to winter easy.

2012 2500, pressures kept at max front and rear, rotated basically every oil change

Hi All,
Be aware that the OEM Firestone Transforce AT is a Commercial rated tire, Load Range E.
I am already looking for a replacement and noticed some brands list their Light Truck tires as Load Range D, and not even available in the same size as my OEM LT285/60R20.
I am an RV-er towing a 5th wheeler, (loaded weight approximately 15K), with a 2014 Laramie Limited, 2500HD, 4X4, CC, short bed, with the OEM Firestone Transforce AT LT285/60R20.
Make sure you are choosing a LOAD RANGE E when making your tire choice!
Ciao,
ST

No, the stock tires Chrysler provides are garbage. Every Ford my family and I have bought has had tires that lasted at least 50k, but the forterra's on my wife's jeep are junk and so are the firestones on my ram. The only good tires that ram uses are the silent armors that come on the 1500 Outdoorsmans.

don't know about Ford tires but the stock goodyear tires on my grandfathers silverado are very similar to the SR-As on mine and are equally garbage. he got about 45,000km before they were nearly wore out then suddenly 3 bulged out for no apparently reason

my Outdoorsman just has the SR-As, assuming it's because it has the 20s? still there's no excuse for putting such crappy tires on a new truck especially if that truck is expected to tow ****
