Tire Suggestions

2022 Ram 2500 6.7 4x4. I know that there are a lot of opinions on A/T tires. Just looking for real world experiences from someone who also tows quite often.
We pull our 8500lb camper all over, according on where our work is at the time. I went through the original Transforce A/T tires, and then went to a set of Cooper Adventurer A/T Force tires. Those have been ok for the 25k miles that they have been run. Starting my research for a new set, as we will be replacing them sometime this summer.
I run A/T tires, as we live a good way off the highway on a primitive rock road and a constantly off-road at times, due to our job locations.
I have noticed here lately that the rocks are really chewing up the tread of these Coopers. I am looking for a good durable A/T tire that will also be stable at towing, and have good off-road grip.
Any info is greatly appreciated. I had the Falken Wildpeak A/T3W on my half ton, and am also looking at the Wildpeak A/T4W, possibly for this truck.

I have been running Toyo Open Country ATIII tires and use (used) them on two Jeeps and two Ram 2500 trucks.

They aren't the cheapest option, but they wear well, are quiet on the highway, they grip in rock/sand/gravel/snow conditions very well.

No experience yet, and I don't tow but looking at reviews I saw guys with diesels who tow were reporting 50k-55k miles out of Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT and also held up good vs rocks and trail damage.

If Tire Rack ever pulls their head out of their ass long enough to get them delivered to the right place I'll have some real world experience soon...

Thank you for the reply. We are currently working in CA and are staying at a huge park near a lake. We have needed Amazon to deliver here to the office. Out of three deliveries, only one made it. The rest were returned. Hope your tires get there soon.

Depending on how much open lug/tread you want to on your tires, the Cooper SST, SST Max or Rugged Trek are good tires or if you want more closed tread the Discover road & trail is an AT type tire

Thank you for the reply. The Road and Trail would probably suit our needs better than the more open tread. I like the look of the more aggressive tires, but at times we drive long distances to our next job. This particular job here was 2100 miles from home. Thats the thing, its highway to the jobs. Once we get there or get home, we need a more aggressive tire for where we work and live. It's a hard decision, because we need both.

There is no such thing as a great highway tire that is wonderful off road. With an electric wheel lug wrench it takes about 15 minutes to change over 4 tires. If I was in your shoes, I would have a set of highway tires, and a set of very aggressive off road tires. It looks like you have lots of room for an extra set of tires.

I too run Toyo Open Country, I find them great for all that I do.

It definitely doesn't have to be wonderful offroad. I know that would be a unicorn to find. Just needs to be as good as the Cooper that I currently have. These have just worn quicker than expected, and the rocks are now cutting them up. The tires I currently have are a pretty mild tread.

I've had pretty good luck with the General ATx and Copper Stronghold AT. Both seem to work pretty good on forest service roads without being excessively noisy.

I ran Michelin 10ply on my 2500. Don’t believe they were AT though. Did fine at construction sites without issue. And not much road noise. But you better have your platinum card.

Thank you for the reply. We have Michelin LTX M/S on our Honda Odyssey. Wow, they have been some great tires. They do not like snow i have found out on our primitive road. They do good with tire chains though, lol. Luckily I was able to score four of them that were a couple of years old, still had the nubs on the tread. All for $250.

I also tow a lot. 2018 Cummins with 75k total miles but almost 40k of that is towing our travel trailer. The original Firestone tires lasted 30k at best, they were at a 2 when I replaced them. Then a 2nd set were defective and only lasted one session.

I just replaced my Michelin AT tires which lasted about 40k miles with another set of the same Michelin tires. I am very happy with these. The tread was still a 6/7 and they would have been fine for the rest of this season if I was only driving on the road, but I store my trailer in the middle of a field and I was not getting the traction I needed in what I would call mild off road conditions. The new tires start at 14 to give you a comparision.

I don't have many miles on them yet, but I just installed Continental Terrain Contact AT tires. I do know they are dead silent on the highway and have behaved nicely in rain and some light snow. Haven't had a chance to tow with them yet. Not a super aggressive tread pattern but should be fine for light off-road use.
