Night or low light photography is one of my fav ways to photograph vehicles.. some examples from over the years:

as the op mentioned already, a tripod is a must.. also try your best to learn your equipment the (camera and lenses). the above pics were taken with a variety of cameras and lenses. from sony point and shoot camera to a canon 400D with a 17-50mm f2.8 sigma lens.

I have yet to try out my 5D mk3 at night tho.

Another tip I have for anybody using an SLR.
If you don't have a tripod just raise the ISO. I have gone from 100 to 4000 and shot at 40 but the bad part is it will be grainier and not as tight.

Thats true. 6d or 5d would take better shots at higher iso compared to my 7d.
