So i've owned my 2008 Ram 2500 for about a year now, she is in beautiful shape, low miles and equipped all the stuff I want and none of the new junk I don't, but the biggest problem that makes me not super happy with it is the simple fact it's a Gasser.

the 5.7 is a fine motor and gets the big truck moving pretty easily, it's reliable and cheap-ish to fix but I want a Diesel, I have the time and space to do the work and I think I have a source for a motor and tranny for super cheap.

Has anybody done this? I know the general answer is "just sell it and buy one that already is a diesel" since the Dodge can be factory equipped with the Cummins obviously and it might be cheaper to just trade into a diffrent truck.

I'm fairly handy, I can do mild fabrication and I have a car lift that can support the truck, Is this doable? does anybody make kits for this? I got a feeling the mechanical situation won't be the hard part but it will be the electrical one.

Here is a picture of the truck, only thing it has wrong with it is the stupid fake chrome peeling off a spot on the bug guard.

Well being the 2500 the frame mounts are going to be perfect. Get a cummins with that year motor mounts and it will physically drop right in. The trans will be your biggest deal. I just recently dropped a 2015 6.7 into a 2003 1500 SC truck and had to modify the mounts and the frame to fit the motor. My trans is a 727/gearvendors. Your setup you would want to run a 47rh and your factory t case will bolt up if 4x4 and factory shafts still work. The other tricky part will be wiring to make it work. I don’t know 100% if simply dropping a cummins from that year range in and using factory wiring if it will work like stock but maybe. I went painless but I also have a huge year gap there.

The trans will not be the biggest deal. The electronics will. They work a bit differently then the gas setup and I assume you want the truck to act normal lol. No one makes a kit for this, so it's all custom. Someone on here did a similar swap a few years ago, took him a couple months to get it to fire with the minimal amount of modules happy; took about six months to get the cluster and some other stuff to actually work correctly. Do you have emissions testing up in the great white north? If so, there's another wrinkle as that will be different as well. If you could find an 06-08 donor truck you'd be golden. So first question is, what year/combo do you have in mind to drop in? Original for an 08 would be 6.7 w/68RFE.
