So I recently got a 2016 ram 1500 sport and last week I swapped all the manifold bolts to grade 8 hardware to avoid the dreaded broken bolt tick... lock washers and washers included. I removed heat shields and torqued up good, retorqued again just to verify. I attached my dipstick bracket to the brake booster to avoid any rattles but now and it may have been there prior to changing any bolts I've noticed a rattle with acceleration as shown in the video you can hear... everything is snug and I'm at a loss.. only during driving not in park reving or neutral

Any ideas?

How’s the fluid level in your front diff? That’s the only thing I can think of is low fluid in the front diff. I’ve never seen a noise like that.
Should be fine honestly it's only got 70 k on it dealer checked everything out before I got it... my 2010 had a similar noise but not like this more the exhaust leak as those bolts broke before i could swap and never did get them done at a shop

Just a long shot, but double check all of the lock washers. They are known to rattle and a lot of guys end up just removing the lock tabs

If this is the case and they rattle enough they can retard your timing of your engine

I didnt use the stage 8 ones with those tabs just regular hardware store bolts washers and lock washers as per jay greene since I just wanted to replace stock bolts with something abit better quality

I removed heat shields but I cant see that making the noise... I've read some guys say the noise comes from where y pipe meets the main pipe heading to muffler there's some tab thing as shown in pic below ...will check that tomorrowfd9f9494c9b3d8284ea79feb6494c1ff.jpg6149a30a38a7096b964de178e12303f6.jpg

Can you tell if it’s coming from the front or rear? I’m kind of thinking drivetrain related like axles or differential or possibly hubs/bearings. Especially if it doesn’t happen if you’re sitting still.

Its deffinatly front driver corner... I'd like to think a 2016 with only 70k would have bearings that last a decent amount ... my 2010 went to like 220k km on oem and I only replaced because it kinda sounded like the driver side was starting to growl

I can understand that but in a world where parts are manufactured it’s an “any given Sunday” type of deal where you never know what you get from the manufacturer. I’d like to think they’d last at least 100k but I never bet on anything on a car as I’ve been proven wrong every time. I’ve got over 20 years of experience working on cars whether it was in a dealer or on the side.

Check the backing plate also. You may have leaned on it and it might be hitting the rotor now??? Whatever is making the noise has to be rotating at the same speed as the car.

Do these trucks have vacuum actuated hubs? Could be the vacuum solenoid going bad. I used to have a 2004 f150 that made the same noise. Ended up being the lock ring in the hubs bouncing off the hub because the vacuum solenoid was failing. Only made the noise while driving.

Well I jacked it up checked wheel bearing and that's not it... pulled tire, wheel liner rechecked all manifold bolts and anything that would possibly be making the noise including that tab after the y pipe above the clamp... no luck ... hoping it's not something in the engine but only one way to find out... any other ideas would be great but I guess itll have to go to the dealer eventually

You can check the front driveshaft and make sure it’s greased properly. There’s 1 grease fitting on the entire truck and it’s on the front driveshaft.

UPDATE on the noise. Took to the dealer and had the lead engine tech take it for a drive after verifying all exhaust bolts were still good and tight. He was dead sure it was a pulley based on the noise staying in sync with speed (faster and more rotational) so we pulled the belt and ran it without for a minute In PARK and still the noise continued. Not valvetrain related as per the engine tech as he said its a different sound all together. They were all stumped and are wondering if its a intake manifold related issue bad gasket or cracked manifold. I was just able to have them check that much as i needed to be on the road shortly after. made an appt for a month later and there hoping it either gets worse to be able to narrow it down further or pull intake manifold off to replace gaskets as much as they dont want to just start throwing parts at it.
