Awesome work!! Im definitely gonna try this. Money is short right now and better mpg's and throttle response sound good to me for the price of 5 bucks. Thanks for sharing.

Mine is similar but the more common way is drilling the hole in the bottom of the Air Box, otherwise pretty identical. I did spend a little more because I bought an extra Air Box (used) to do this without modifying my stock parts. The extra one I bought came with an intake tube for a 4.7L or something other than the Hemi so I used that as my down-tube. Much better for heat resistance than an aluminum duct tube most folks are using. Than I used a 45º angeled PVC pipe to make a scoop. I also put in an Airaid Performance Air Filter. Personally, I did not feel a thing different or see any improvement in the MPG. Did notice a whole lot more dirt on the new filter and even small pebbles in the Air Box now. What it all means, I can't tell you. It was a lot of fun though, LOL!

You can do something very similar with a shop vac wide mouth attachment. It would cost maybe 10 bucks too.

I've been keeping my eyes open for one of those at garage sales.

I have a spot picked out to end my pipe near my bumper, but it I'm unsure do you normally put a screen or anything near the inlet around the bumper or a prefilter to keep large debris like leafs from making it up to your air box. I was thinking of fitting a screen on the pipe or a filter. Just curious what other ppl have and or are doing. Thanks in advance.

I don't have anything on the pipe. No "big" debris gets into the airbox. It really does stay quite clean.

As for dealerships seeing it.....I don't think most would pay that much attention.

I need to get on the ball and do this. I almost bought a used stock airbox a couple of weeks ago to do this to, but had to spend the money elsewhere. Might have to redip into the funds and consider this again.

Casper you gotta be the most negative guy around,he did a nice job,and all he'd have to do is melt a cover over the hole to return to stock.

I for one think he did a hell'va job.

And the acordian tube isn't as big a restriction as you think, the boundary layer air principle works in it,replacing the tube won't gain you any "Seat of the Pants" feel
At least I didn't get banned.

Today I took out the stock air-box snorkel (the piece coming from the air-box going to the fender). I cut a 3" hole into the side of it and installed a 3" tube connection adapter. I installed the assembly back into the truck and immediately noticed much better throttle response.

I plan on hooking a 90 deg elbow to the tube connection and then run a 3" tube down to the front bumper inlet. This will be a true cold air intake for sure.

In total I've spent an hour of my time and a whopping 5 bucks for the 3" tube adapter.

I'll post some pics when it is all completed.

Oh and I already have the K&N drop in filter too.

Paul

A lot here have already seen this, but I grafted a Vararam Air Grabber to fit my 03, seals against the hood and made a snorkel air intake that pulls air from the front and it removes with "Mini Push Latches" for access, the bottom air filter tray is attached with wing nuts so it pops right out as well... does this meet your qualifications for kit-bashing? I've got about 25hrs and $200 invested not including the used Vararam I picked up for $100.00.

Seen it, but its still a nice hack/kit-bash.

Seriously?

For the record, imagine he barfed a little bit, in his mouth, because he knows how much less a used ebay factory air box is than his $400 CAI, should he ever want to return to stock.

FOr those who have done this.

how does adding an extra hole , in that piece from the air box to the finder, add air flow as opossed to adding the whole ,in the bottom of the air box itself?

I am genuinely wanting to do whichever is gives best results.
